While the OSA's 'Cataphract' makes a decent assault 'Mech the 'Dragoon' was designed for the role - or rather redesigned for it. Easy observation traces the design right back to it with the legs and most of the torso being essentially identical. To put it squarely in the role the design team removed the over-sized artillery piece and replaced it with an armored center torso that looks like it might be a cockpit. The left shoulder box launcher was replaced with a higher-volume short-range drum model and the two arm-mounted accelerators were scaled up and provided with variable ammunition feeds.

Two IR laser emitters were added to the right shoulder and linked to an intercept fire control system for anti-missile duties though their placement gives them sufficient coverage for anti-infantry work as well. The two forward sensor panels were recessed into beveled housings for (slightly) more protection and two mortar-grenade launchers were added to either side of the torso to allow the 'Dragoon' to lay down multi-spectrum 'smoke' to cover its movement. Additionally, 'claymore'-style mines were fitted to the legs for use against massed close-range infantry.

Because of their shear size, the OSA has commissioned a 'command' variant of the Dragoon with an extended cabin and command & control suite that allows the 'Mech to be used as a mobile tactical operations center. These variants are easily distinguished by their additional antenna cluster. Typically they will also exchange their regular missile load-out for tube-launched spotter drones and sensor platforms.

The pictured unit (#85) is part of the 27th Armored Brigade based out of Juniper, where most of the OSA's manufacturing is also centered. When testing and qualification is complete they will be deployed halfway across the galaxy for joint training and wargame operations with the other initial user of the 'Dragoon' in the NPoY.
