The Outer Systems Alliance or 'OSA' is a paramilitary organization that exists separate from the regular Republic of Sunset Defense Force ('RDF'). Legally organized as a 'Multi-System Law Enforcement Organization', they have taken it upon themselves to provide visible defense of member systems as a distinct counter-point to what they view as the 'ineffective' RDF 'Uncertainty' Defense Doctrine. This Doctrine seeks to maximize uncertainty in a prospective attacker by minimizing the RDF presence in Republic Systems; a lack of visibility which the OSA feels does not give sufficient pause to potential attackers. The RDF would counter that attacks - never mind successful attacks - on Republic star systems are exceedingly rare but the OSA seems immune to said counter.

As part of their efforts to project and establish their legitimacy as an organization, the OSA decided to adopt a standard service uniform across the entire organization; this is that uniform. The executive committee was looking for something similar but not completely alike in appearance to the RDF uniform with an 'advanced' appearance and similar functionality. The finalized design is issued to service members as a five piece ensemble; loose or fitted tunic & trousers, boots, gloves, and an interesting 'geometric' beret. With gloves and boots as well as the 'pull-down' mask concealed in the beret band, the uniform is vacuum-capable for a short time (minutes) and functions admirably as low-profile body armor - though this is best suited to the occasional bar brawl rather than modern combat.

Rank is designated by a series of straight bar pins across the right chest and eventually the OSA emblem will appear on the left shoulder (when approved by the Executive Committee). The belt and pouches are integral to the tunic and contain OSA-restricted communications and identification systems which are in turn keyed to recognize the wearer as an authorized OSA service member. It should be noted that the majority of the OSA, like Republic citizenry in general, are first and foremost residents of the Eien and thus this recognition is keyed to either their EienNode or their ExoCortex.
