The Zenith-Class is the Republic's default bulk transport and fleet tender. Most of the saucer portion of the saucer section is given over to a (heavily armored and reinforced) ordinance storage, relay, and reloading system that allows the large volume of torpedoes used by the Defense Force's standard 'Cyclone' high-cycle torpedo launchers to be relatively rapidly reloaded. Because a torpedo is a science probe is a communications satellite is a multitude of other things that can fit in the same casing, this also allows the Zenith to act as a mobile replenishment point for many of the other common consumables. For those items that are not meant to be shot at, around, near, or to something there is a large external cargo rack fixed to the rear of the saucer where the secondary hull might otherwise be. This rack then carries a number of pods - expandable from two to thirty-two - that are detachable. When docked at a large station, such as a Singularity-Class, these can interface with a standard inter-modal cargo handling system to be filled with forty foot shipping containers. Technically, the Zenith is capable of planetary landing and can then unload the pods via its own cranes though doing this under any kind of fire or opposition (even of the natural type) is not recommended; Maxim 11 applies!
