Under the previously-mentioned Rapid Recovery Initiative there would be the need for a replacement for several different classes of vessels - Venture-Class Heavy Explorers, Apogee-Class Survey Cruisers, Radiant-Class Explorers, and others. Nominally these are all scientific vessels but, in time of war, they would be expected to swap their secondary purpose with their primary (Intelligence gathering being much the same as interstellar exploration, for these purposes) and losses would be expected. While it is in no way equivalent to these starship classes, it is an acceptable substitute for the 'eyes and ears' of the fleet. Like the previous example - the Retrograde-Class Fast Destroyer - it is a stripped-back design with no particular creature comforts. It is also one of the few designs to utilize only a single warp nacelle. The design is based on an older model of light scout, the Curiosity-Class, and just as in that case it was decided that its direct combat chances were essentially nil; If engaged by an equivalent-displacement vessel it would be destroyed or disabled. Instead it was decided to emphasis the ship's purpose and so it is equipped with both two large lateral sensor arrays on the outside of the rear pylons as well as two small secondary arrays forward of these. On the end of the dorsal connecting pylons are two large box modules. These specialist modules will then be equipped with a particular sub-unit during manufacture and are left essentially open-ended in their future use.
