Description Okay ... so here's what happened.

I don't come up with new characters that often anymore. I prefer to work with the ones I have. Because, lord knows, I have enough already.

But sometimes a new one happens and I can't do a darned thing to stop it. I think they show up more than they are made. There are worse addictions, I suppose.

I have a lot of alien races, and over half of them are down to one living soul to represent them. Which is sad, really. I went to all that trouble to work up a biology and culture ... and for what? To never have it shown or experienced? Doesn't seem right.

So while I can't make a whole civilization just appear (there would be something terribly wrong with it if it were all that easy), I can work on a higher population for those species that are ready for it. At this point in time, the Terrians were the only ones.

Until now, there was only one Terrian; the ruler of their empire, now a doctor who has believed himself alone all this time. Anton Xalveria. This guy:

And that's where Merentah comes in. About 12,000 Terrians were found in deep space, still in stasis from so many tens of thousands of years ago, and he was the General who led them away when their empire was invaded.

This is an archived picture of him from when the Terrian Empire was still the greatest civilized power in the Universe. Right now, he doesn't look this good. He was in stasis and that should have protected him. But no one imagined he and the others would be stuck that way for so long. There were some terrible consequences. He's dehydrated, muscles have atrophied, bones have weakened and some organs will need to be replaced by modern prothestics. Right now he is restricted to a bed and attached to all sorts of machines. But he is awake and he is alive.

The other Terrians are being brought back slowly, just a few at a time. Not all of them have survived. Merentah's three children did not. The eldest two were in units that malfunctioned only a few hundred years into the journey. His youngest, Vetta (5), was damaged too much to live for more than a few hours. She was brought into the room with him and he was at least able to say goodbye to her. He's covering up his feelings with humor for the moment.

When he's up and around again, he has a job waiting for him. But for now, his old pictures are good enough for the magazines, he's awake enough to give an interview or two and to have memorized every detail of the ceiling above his bed.

I may write up the interview or do a meme for him later. Believe it or not ... those actually help.

(Addendum: In answer to the question: "Where are his nipples?" Terrians are not mammals. Their hair is densely-packed downy-like feathers, the females lay eggs and those spines on his arms are genetic remnants of wings. Nipples wouldn't be a part of their anatomy because neither male nor female ever has or ever will produce milk for their young, which is the function of nipples in the first place. Let's try to keep and open mind, folks.)

The backstory is really interesting. I feel so awful for him that his kids didn't survive. Did he have a wife in stasis as well?
It will be interesting to see how well Anton and Meren get along.

He looks like a very capable general, but there is also some compassion here. You can see it in his eyes.
I like the spikes and protrusions on the arms. They look very natural and organic and slightly dangerous!
And speaking of dangerous,I love those blades!

Thanks!
100,000 years of stasis is hard on a body and especially on little ones. So it's sad (very) but not all together unexpected.
The mother of his older children (Kolav-10, and Nikki-8) was never married to Meren. They were good friends and the children were more of a political arrangement. (But that didn't change how he felt about them.) Vetta's mother, who Meren did love very much, though they were never married either, was killed in the line of duty when Vetta was 3. So he doesn't feel guilty at all about chasing down the pretty blue doctor.

Anton and Meren *were* best friends. But since Meren has been revived, they've stumbled upon a problem. Anton has lived all those years while Meren was in stasis. That much time can really change a person. It's not good or bad, but it is very different. They've found they don't relate to one another the way they used to. They are still friends, that much is the same ... they just can't relate to each other in the same way. It will take some exploration and redefining.

That will be interesting to see how they can bridge that gap.
Poor things, but I guess if you face galactic enslavement or stasis, this is the lsesser of the two evils.

Thank you for sharing that.

Heeey why does NG doesn't have this kind of neat covers xD
Love the font - it's simple, sleek and really resembles NG one

I really like his design - very ancient Egyptian styled clothes with a scifi otherworldly touch and those arm spikes - very nice detail! Everyy one of them has different spikes or is it some kind of sign of an area they lived in or sth like that? :3 (seeing that Antons spikes are different than Yegors )

Seems like a introduction to a really neat character!

Thanks much! Thanks for the Journal feature for him, too!

I could for sure do for more hot guys on NG.

Well-spotted on the arm spikes! The General's are bigger than Anton's because of the way their species evolves. Their evolution is exceptionally quick. Merentah's great x 4 Grandfather had wings that folded up and were attached to his arms where Meren has the spines. So Meren's are remnants of wings. Anton's are on their way to being functioning gills as the species will become the Slee-Sha in about ten generations. (In fact, the Slee-Shain leader is the greatx8 grandson of Meren and Anton's friend Janus.)

How's that for too much information!?

He looks pretty much the same. His body just thinks he slept. And he'd have my hide if I showed him all dried out.

Thanks very much!

Terrians sound like they have an interesting (but sad) history. Are those spikes bones, cartilage, or something else?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NuBearEull In reply to Lady-Tempest [2011-12-17 21:08:35 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! It is kind of a sad story ... but only at the end. They had hundreds of thousands of years with the glory of an empire and expansion into space. I think their issue was that they thought they were more invincible than they were.

The bits on his arms are the genetic remnants of wings, so mostly cartilage at this point. They used to live the the sky-scraper-sized trees on their home planet and could climb with their hands but could spread out wings that were usually folded to glide from one tree to another.

(Pardon my mini-novel! )
