Description
This is one of the few paintings I actually saw in a vision. A stele of the manikin scepter{a deity of lineage, sacrafice, and vision quest} smokes beside a long black road with white bricks. I do not know exactly what it means as it is a vision and not a direct concept. To me it seems to be a marker in a time...a Mayan grave-stone which is more of a living reminder than a symbol of death. The mysteries of the Maya are carried to the present moment through such markers as the existing ruins and the calendar{with its upcomming end-date}. Concentrated thought endowed with sacred blood long ago is still alive and present today.Bloodletting, the sacrifice of human life, is ongoing....the stars whach the carnage silently in their preccession across our sky.
But perhaps the blood in this painting{the sky, celestial blood} is self-sacrifice as in a mayan vision ceremony where blood is let from the fingers and tongue onto paper which is then burned. Visions come in the form of a serpent which rises from the smoke of burning blood-paper.
But I am open to any interpretation here.

The abstract style in which you have painted this, and the intensity of the colour of the sky, reflects the dreamlike nature of the painting.
As for the meaning, I could be cliched and say 21/12/2012

I find it funny that 2012 has made its way to cliche status even....
but I do agree this painting does have ancient-end-date quality eventhough I wasn't thinking about it when I saw it or painted it.
Have you read Daniel Pinchbeck's 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl ? I'm in the middle of it right now and its amayzing...

I haven't read it yet, although I read a review of it in Sub Rosa and it does sound very interesting. I've bought too many books lately though, and need to actually read some of them, so it'll probably be a while before I get to read this.

beautiful vision. i had a friend that had a cut on his leg the other day and it look just like the marks from a blood letting.
the land looks far and empty. maybe the stone is a sign of the beginning of the mayan civilization and the long road ahead.
