I love this revolver, which was awesome that a real gun ver. was made. It call Chiappa Rhino, how you ever hear of it?

Then I'm guessing you also hear about the Mateba 6 Unica Autorevolver .44 Magnum, then?

Oh, that's good to hear. some the artists that I know, that draw weapons don't know their guns they are basing their designs on.

And please, come check out my gallery I have some weapon designs along with other drawings that I hope you'll like.

Probably more like they're inspired by real-life weapons but don't consciously realize it or aren't forthright about openly admitting it.

I wonder how much money it would take to accurately create this...

Depends on how much machining you want to do

If I could learn it and have all the tools necessary, I'd happily machine it myself, haha.

It's def a cool design, but the cylinder opening upwards really bugs me. Have you ever used a revolver? When you unlock the cylinder, half of the function is tilting the gun, gently pushing and letting gravity do its thing. Having the cylinder open upwards would create such a fuss.

Nyandgate In reply to BringMeASunkist [2012-10-30 04:40:17 +0000 UTC]

Nope, never so much as seen a functioning revolver (okay, that's a lie, but not too far of a stretch) - I'm Japanese! I'm also an engineer with field experience and an intimate understanding of gravity, so I understand the issue. I simply decided to blatantly ignore it for the same reason that Gundams come with fusion reactors and space battles in TV shows have sound - because it's cooler that way.

BringMeASunkist In reply to Nyandgate [2012-10-30 04:44:40 +0000 UTC]

Haha well you're right about that; it is cool. I guess I can't fault you too much, I too have sacrificed function and reality for aesthetics. Who would I be to condemn you for the same thing.

I do enough functional design in the lab The canvas is for more relaxed work.

you did this with sketchup?
I make guns with Sketch up too but i lack a bit of details, how did you do this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyandgate In reply to DerShishaGott [2012-09-25 04:16:09 +0000 UTC]

I did most of it in SketchUp and then I drew the rest of the detail in.

For those interested, the gun is pretty much reality. I've held on in my hands, and fired it myself.

Chiappa Firearms "Rhino". even closer looking to your design than the Mateba M2006 you keep mentioning

They took the opportunity to use the lower barrel to lighten the gun up (it is very light, compared to it's size, something I don't actually care for), even going so far as to drill those channels that run along the top of the barrel to support the sight. and while there is a "hammer" on the back, it's not actually what comes forward to strike the round, it's just a lever you can pull back to place the gun in single action vs double action.

Cool design. Not every day you get to dream something up, and have the option of one day going to use it

like the Italian auto-revolver that tougsa uses on ghost in a shell. ( the way the cylinder flips atop reminded me of it)

Unlike most revolver designs I've seen, I can't find any immediate problems with this. Superb engineering. I'll have one with a 8-inch barrel.

Any chance we can see the inner workings? I'ld love to see how that hammer is supposed to work.

hehe i migth be able to help you with that ^^ been fooling around with the internals of the gun for some time now, that was why i got intersted in fire arms in the first place.
though my desings aint as practicl as yours, but i must say that is a beatiful piese of enginnering you have made there, you got some skill with a pencil my friend ^^
i gree with Borotiu, but i take two 8 iches ^^ btw how long is the origninal barrel? 4-5 inches ?

And now, seriously, a very nice design. It's got the stamp of 'workability' on it.

Keep it up; It's good to see guns (or any fictional objects) that are based on real-world engineering rather than 'rule of cool'.

. . . Not that the result doesn't look cool. . .

(I can see Deckard wanting an upgrade after his last job)
