Description Sometimes people ask me, "Obs, why don't you have any OC's?"

Then I show them Cephalalgia, Applejack's distant cousin who--despite being a unicorn who can't use magic--still manages to run the most profitable maple tapping operation in all of Equestria.

They never ask me about OC's ever again.

Pencil sketch and Paint Tool SAI.

Mkay so it's a known fact that I critique very harshly, so without further adieu let's begin.
The first thing I want to touch on is how this was painted. The particular style of painting has proven effective time and time again and if done correctly, creates very beautiful pieces. But it looks like you could use some work, what I see wrong is a lack of definition. If your going to use outlines then one assumes that your going to stick to those outlines, but you didn't. Something that I actually suggest is using the wand tool to pre-select the area you wish to paint before beginning so you can get right up to the outline without going over it. Now it's arguable that not sticking to the outline can produce some good effects, but in places it just doesn't look good, take the eyes for example.
Another thing i'd like to point out is that some of your colors blend awkwardly, for example there is a random blue spot between his eyes.
Now correct me if i'm wrong but it appears that you painted directly over your pencil sketch, a lot of your lines can be seen under the color and it just looks very awkward. This is actually a very simple fix done with a few clicks of a button though. Just remember to make your sketch layer invisible before exporting. If you find that it doesn't have enough texture without that layer then I suggest re-adding the texture through digital means.
one last negative that I would like to touch on is how you did the hair, pupils, and the hole in the tree. instead of filling in those areas with black lines it would produce a much better effect if you just outlined those and actually painted them in like the rest of the painting.
Now i'm sure your tired of me saying "what wasn't done right" so now i'm going to tell you what I actually do like about this piece /)^3^(\
I may seem like i'm contradicting myself but one thing you did right was the painting (doh) the background is almost perfect (it could use a hill or some trees maybe) and the way you shaded is wonderful, it's just those pesky pencil sketch lines that throws it off.
I hope this was thought provoking and helpful. I hope you have a wonderful day and i'll be watching your art and searching for improvement e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="387" title=" (Wink)"/>

In my head she's an Apple Family relative, an even later bloomer than Apple Bloom who felt like an outsider for being the only unicorn in a family of earth ponies. When she got her third rejection letter from Canterlot Academy stating she had "no discernible magic ability", she started banging her head against a tree. At which point maple sap started flowing out of a neatly drilled hole. I may end up drawing that as a comic sometime.

Thanks! Β It's a messy sketch, but I like the colors. Β May have to keep this around just to build a color pallet off of.

I haven't forgot that you asked about a drawing a few weeks back. Β I was knee deep in that billiards painting and couldn't let go, and I'm still trying to make up my mind on whether to start another more involved project. But don't hesitate to send me details on whatever you're wanting to see. Β I'll keep it in the queue so when inspiration strikes I can just start running it with it.

Thanks. Β I just made up the colors as I went and really like the happy accident desaturated blue and orange thing it has going...
