unfired Black Raven clay, 16" longThis didn't exactly start out as a response to the impending fury of Irma, but you know how the clay sometimes has a mind of its own...
Still experimenting with a more abstract approach to the figure, developing a theme I began while in Prague.

I like the sense of wind and movement while she has foundation. She is aware of the strength of the storm but is not fighting it, rather allowing herself to flow with its currents. It has no malign intent, just is, and she doesn't give it a a power beyond what it has by its nature. She faces it head on.

That was the thought. I've been working on these as a series, and the unifying theme is the flowing lines of the body. This one flowed quite naturally out of that line.

In this case, definitely not. Living the storm around me (and around many of those I love).

Reports are starting to come in from some of our co-workers in the Caribbean, and things are pretty devastated down there. Some places are reporting 90% of the structures are simply gone...
