Description
Much easier than my first modelsimply pull and hold trigger
angle the axe down so the blades slide to the top
flick your wrist to flip the sword around
and release the trigger
actually building it as i said in the comments of the related image to this- the trigger and red line will be encased in a pipe or built into the frame- they are drawn to stand out because they are important
most important is the pink axle at the top end of the switch axe -the round thing with to arms coming out of it in opposite directions, one of these arms is attached to the red line- the other attached to a spring
there are not as many complicated or moving parts in this model
however this pink axle is one part that is very complicated
this axle locks everything in place
in addition to the two big arms
there are two slightly visible smaller arms inside the frame- they're visible because i textured the frame as glass so you can see through it- these arms will be nails/screws- they will turn into the axe and sword blade- there are corresponding notches- in these notches a metal bracket should be placed- something like what is used on picture frames
being as how this is only a design i wouldn't recommend anyone trying to build it just yet
i have a bad habit of changing designs as i build them
so when i eventually get around to making this-
things might get changed- i'll deal with that later though

So, I've finally managed to understand the blueprints(not you fault I just have trouble with plans like this)and I was wondering EXACTLY what the measurements might be. I'm also having trouble understanding how the blade is held in place. I understand how the axeΒ head stays in, but by the look of it, the blade isn't even secured. I'm only asking this since I myself am constructing a switch axe, and while mine may be modeled after the Shagaru Switch axe, the concepts are the same.

Oh really cool! Found this picture by googleing [monster hunter mechanical switch axe]
Although how does it unlock? From axe to sword?

thank you
same way it goes from sword to axe- the red trigger rotates the pink axle thing at the top- both sides of the axle have a pin that catches the notch of the back of the blue blade
if you browse through my gallery i have more pictures of other versions and even a few completed versions

Cool Do they work? If so That would be a cool project for me to try. Maybe on a smaller scale to start.

check my completed projects for evidence as to their functionality-
the designs without final projects might work-
i know i could make it work but i might end up modifying the design as i use it
soo it's up to you whether or not you try,
all i can say is i think they might work

It'll be on the outside

i may or may not put a cover over it

i have a website www.techdollogic.com where we build monster hunter weapons and armors from the actual in game files , i have all the switch axe designs as well but they are to complex for the average human , but they may be something you could benefit from having, i have a working switch axe as well but i have never finished it (paint and covering detail the mechanical sections work) because i have to many projects in the way first! mine uses full extention guides to channel the blade and nylon floor sliders to help the other parts move.
But if you want any of the in game models as OBJ files let me know

("to complex for the average human") cocky much i dont really care about all the other stuff you said but what did you use as your main material and what are full extention guides and nylon floor sliders. How do these play into your design

i dont think im too cocky about it most people simply cant handle 800+ polygon models and the switch axes have parts that move throu the other parts so yes they are generally to complex,,, but anyhow i used 1/4 inch double finished plywood (maple) as the main parts its my most used materials ,
The floor sliders simply space things apart so things can move nicly without problems and the full extensions are used to make a 22 inch solid moving frame for the main blade , its not all that different from what you did except for you used alot heavier low tech (but very difficult) methods , where i implemented a bit of technology to make it simpler and lighter

...You must upload pix when you finish it. I'm sure it'll look spectacular, as always. How you come up with these designs is just... "oh em gee". ^^

Of course i'll load pictures
it may be a spell or two before i get around to it though
i don't have school woodshop, this or next semester so i'll have to do it from home- which raises the problem of -i need to go buy some wood-
and madness is all my classes
so finding time to buy wood will be tough- i shouldn't really even be sparing time to load these pictures-
but i'm willing to trade some marks for compliments and such i find online.
