Thank you so much for your kind comment. Long way to go though, (and since the last picture I've had no time to do any artwork at all, real life has gotten in the way. So frustrating. I REALLY need to go clean the kitchen and bathroom in a minute, and I don't want to I want to sit here and play. Oh well...)

This is beautiful. Merlin's eyes are especially gorgeous.
So you're doing digital art now?

Thank you.
Well, only just started having a go. I'm not changing over totally, I'm still gonna keep doing acrylics as well, but it's a fun new thing to have a go at. (And a lot of art seems to be going that way, and I don't want to be left totally behind just because I was scared to learn something new.)

Merlins thoughtful expression is caught wonderfully here and his skin looks dewy and like I can reach out and touch his face (I wish I could!!) but again beautiful work and it still looks like your style even though its a different medium and I love that your unique style carries over to the graphics tablet too

Aww thank you. Yeah, I wish I could reach out and touch him too.
I have no idea how the good tablet artists do that lovely smooth really realistic skin that looks totally real. But, I'm not sure whether I want to go down that route anyway...I don't know yet, I'll have to look around at digital art galleries and see what I fall in love with and what I'd like to be able to emulate.

I also agree with ~dchan07
I'm glad you're able to keep that beautiful feel of traditional painting to your digital artworks

Thank you very much.
At the moment I don't know where I want to go digital art wise...I don't even know what styles I like. So I'm just learning how to use it first and then maybe a style will follow... At the moment I'm just using it like paint, because that's what I know. But I need to look at digital art and see what can be done with it, and what I'd like to do....

Honestly, I really like your current style. Even if it's how you paint traditional, it's still very unique digitally. But the style is really up to you. I'm probably going to like any style you decide to take on eventually
You can always watch livestreams from various Artist. You might spot a style you enjoy the work flow of.

I think I'll fall into a style as I do it. It's like with acrylic painting, no matter how I try to change my style I always end up painting the same way. I assume this will be the same.
It's a bit like handwriting I guess. (Though I don't actually have a particular style of handwriting myself, I have about half a dozen that I change into depending on what mood I'm in.)
Amph very kindly pointed out a couple of good forums where digital artists show off what they've done, and I know of another artists' site which has a digital forum too, so I might wander around those and see what people are doing.

It probably will be. Your hand will probably just follow the flow it prefers unconsciously.
As for handwriting, I personally don't have a specific one. I guess it only depens on if I'm in a hurry or not.
I personally don't know any digital 2D art forums. I only know 3D forums.
Maybe www.3dtotal.com/ could interrest you for the concept arts.

My God, the 3D art on that site is unbelievable! It just looks real. I can see why you want to do it. I've bookmarked the page so that I can have a proper look around.
If you wrote some sort of Tolkien/Philip Pullman-style fantasy world you could totally create it in images to go with the story.
Though, on the other hand, it makes me feel a bit like a Neanderthal cheerfully brandishing his first flint arrowhead, and then watching open-mouthed as a homo sapien goes racing past on a bicycle...

I also just realize that they give a link to their 2D website:
www.layerpaint.com/
At least now you have an idea of the quality society expects of 3D artists. I am still very far from what people on this website are capable of doing. But I'll learn, and make mistakes, and learn more from them.
Sadly I am not a very good writer.
All I write is pretty much role play posts. But maybe I'll be lucky enough to work with someone with that much imagination someday.
xD
That is one funny comparison. I used to think something similar to that way before I started 3D. Then I realize it's just another media for art using a different more technical technique of creating. If you had skype I could send you a 3D program working more artistically; you'd have an idea of how it looks like.
I used to prefer working on 2D arts at first. But I started to fall more and more in love with 3D because mainly of that artistic program.

Thanks for linking me to that, I've bookmarked it and I'll check it out.
Yeah, the quality is just ridiculously good. One thing that is interesting, is that there seems, at first glance, to be a general consensus on what is "good" 3D art. There are certain predominant styles.
Whereas of course with 2D art you have all sorts of styles from Cubism, to Impressionism, to Abstract etc etc. I wonder if that's because 3D art is still in it's infancy and the Picassos and Francis Bacons of 3D art haven't had a chance to emerge yet. (Could be you!!!)

MysticSteph In reply to ObsidianSerpent [2013-08-01 18:02:20 +0000 UTC]
I can see what you mean by a predominant style. But it's not as easy to find a new style with 3D than it is with real life sculpting; I think. With real life sculpting you can pick the material to use (clay, paper, wood, garbage, ect). But digital sculpting is always made of polygons. So changing the style is pretty much limited on whenever you want it more cartoony or more realistic. There are some more abstract 3D works though; 3d-artists.deviantart.com/art/…
But maybe one day there would be a Picasso of 3D; would be fun to see
Doubt it would be me though xD I really like realist so I'm probably going to aim that way.
Was thinking of posting a wip of one of my 3D characters today on DA. Though I'm not sure.

I really like a lot of those abstract 3D arts, particularly the ones that look like small metal sculptures. (Which is strange, as I'm not really into sculpture or abstract sculpture in non-digital art)
Oooh, yes, you should post the 3D character, it would be great to see the sort of thing you're doing.

I must admit that abstract 3D arts can be impressive. One of my teacher shown us a video once of characters dancing. But the characters were silhouettes made of colors particles flowing out as they dance. Really pretty.
As for my 3D character, it's still so far from done. He doesn't have shoes or hair yet lol.
I could still try to post a picture of it later today.

Beautiful as usual, your art will never cease to impress me !!!
You seem to learn really really fast how to use the tab !
And even if it's not "real" paint we can feel the essence of it, it still has a soul, so I am in love with that technique too
Hugs

Thanks dear,
Well, I'm not really using the tablet at all well yet, since so far I'm just using it like an imaginary "real" palette so that I can get used to it, so I'm not even touching the potential of what people who know how to use it properly can do. I look at what people who do digital art "properly" do, and my jaw just hits the floor and I don't know where they ever START. (I've got SOOOOO much more respect for them since having a go, I now realise just how much I don't know.)
But as a clean, quick, alternative to "real" paints, so far I'm loving it. (SOOO much to learn though, I've really not even scratched the surface.)
