Description After experiencing the heaviest rain in ten years, this past April, the waterways of the South Island of New Zealand were abundant; creeks and streams overflowing, and waterfalls pouring freely; you'd think there was a neverending water supply.

Presented here is the base of the magnificent Matai Falls in the lush dense temperate rainforest of the The Catlins on the south coast of the South Island.

Processed whilst listening to Opeth's magnum opus Blackwater Park.

Nice man... different angle/approach to this falls! Beautifully done!

Mark,

Yeah, I've seen this fall imaged to death and went about doing something a little different. It was a bit nerveracking carrying all my gear out on to those slippery rocks and boulders, but, I think it was worth it.

I've also got a few of the more conventional shots taken of this beautiful waterfall; will get to them in due course.

Cheers.

Humayun

Fair call... I am one who has contributed to the shooting to death of this falls!
I really like your approach to it... nice one!

Mark,

Mate, nothing against people who've imaged this one before, the traditional way -- I did it, too.

I'm trying to put motion my plans to move over to your paradise of a country in the next 12-18 months.

Humayun

Mark,

No worries!

Anywhere on the South Island, and, I'd be happy.

I really love the Wanaka area. There's an amazing burger place there called Red Star (I think). Fergburger in Queenstown's nice, but, Red Star's something else!

Humayun

Nah, nothing is as good as Ferg! I prefer the buzz that Queenstown has over Wanaka too.

octane2 In reply to mark-flammable [2010-09-14 04:38:41 +0000 UTC]

Mark,

Have you tried Red Star? You really must!

And, yes, Queenstown definitely has more of an atmosphere; Wanaka feels like a laid back country town in comparison.

I love both places for their natural wonders.

Humayun

I cant say I have had a Red Star... how are they better? Ferg with blue really is unbeatable!

Mark,

The special ingredient is love!

The blue venison burger at Red Star cannot be beat. It's worth a trip to Wanaka.

well it would be more like 8 or 9 hours return and a good $160 of petrol... quite a bit for a burger!

octane2 In reply to mark-flammable [2011-03-14 13:26:14 +0000 UTC]

Mark,

But, oh, so worth it! It has been almost a year since I had their burgers and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. I must get to New Zealand again this year. Perhaps for winter; never done that other than for skiing in the past. Can only imagine the scenery I could capture. Then, returning in the spring to capture the lupins along the road to Milford Sound. :eyepop:

Oh well we are off to Queenstown in just over a week so will have to get it on the way in or out then! See what your raving about so much

You do need to come back here! I love it so much, but funnily enough Im moving to Canada for a year in 2 1/2 weeks... hence the QT trip to say bye to people!

Someone needs to enjoy the country before the world ends tho... get back down here!

I love how the water is the only thing you can see and that everything else is black. It looks like some kind of nebula against black space with stars shining through.

Phil,

Thanks so much, mate!

For the last six months, I'd been on an electronica binge (my other love), but, have got back into progressive/black metal in the last few weeks. I'm heartbroken to learn that Mike Portnoy has left Dream Theater. :sigh:

Thanks for looking and commenting.

yeah, progressive metal is very delicate although i also enjoy electronic music with a progressive touch such as amon tobin (the master!!!). do you know the band "between the buried and me"? thats awesome progressive metal you could hear all day long while discovering new brilliant things about that music every pass.
i agree with the bad news concerning dream theater. but there is still hope that they gather again in the future.... who knows

cheers

haha, that album is so kickass, i'm listening to it starting from the time it was released until today. i consider colors as one of the best progressive death metal albums ever along with opeth's "blackwater park" and "deliverance" of course

anyways, keep up the fantastic work!

cheers
phil
