It's LONG!!
fair warning. xD; Took me quite a few hours to complete. Another project I just got wound up in and had to complete. Now I can move on to other things easier. xD;

I hope it's helpful, never done a tutorial before... oO;

So, uh, yeah. Enjoy. And don't crit the work done, if you have a comment about content, that's fine (like something you wish I'd put in for instance) but to critique the actual tutorial I would rather you didn't. Thanks!

don't fave w/out commenting please & thank you!

edit: xD;; I was informed the sizing was wrong before for the hand. I realized my mistake, the hand was held too high. It's fixed now... sorry about that!!!

Extra: Thanks for all the support and faves on this! I'm glad it's so helpful and enjoyable! I love hands, tis a passion. Hope to see some marvelous hands from ya'll in the future! hehe.

Also take a look other tutorials!! Anatomy & Foot

very helpful....but i find it hard to find a hand drawn from a back view, looking down the elbow to the hand.....a tutorial with something like that in the future would help me finish the dragon i've been working on for three weeks now!!!
keep up the great work!!!!

like a perspective underneath of from the top? Like, palm or knuckle view? Yeah, those are hard to draw with the perspective.

Only thing I gotta say is that the hand size compared to the head is small. The middle finger reaches up to the widow's peak/the hairline at the very top top top, it's supposed to be basically as big as the head.
But this is a good tut. Basic and easy to read easy to follow. Very well done.

odduckoasis In reply to HotCandyDeath [2009-02-06 09:17:48 +0000 UTC]

It depends on the size of your hand, and a 'widows peak' is not an actual anatomy term as not everyone has one- the middle of the hair line is different than a widows peak. The bottom of the palm of my hand to the tip of my middle finger does not reach the edge of my hair line completely, because I have smaller hands. This is a relative sizing and one that is easy to compare (since your nose kind of gets in the way, going to the side of your head makes it easier to measure).

But, thanks.

HotCandyDeath In reply to odduckoasis [2009-02-06 10:29:18 +0000 UTC]

Ah, alright. I was just saying 'widows peak' since you drew one in and because people know the widows peak as being the middle of the hairline at the top of the head.
The only reason I said this was because of anatomy books I've seen and read in the past all being the same and measuring my hand/face all the time. Why? Drawing purposes and because I'm just weird I suppose.
And they just seemed a little small when I saw the drawing. But like I said, it's a good tutorial. Didn't think you'd ever read my comment with it being so popular. Thanks for getting back to me.

odduckoasis In reply to HotCandyDeath [2009-02-06 19:55:42 +0000 UTC]

I read all comments.
I have also read different anatomy books and references and have been told my hand sizes was off. When I first made the tutorial, it was completely off and the hand was definitely too small. I have actually made it bigger and the right size since then. But still, all in all, the hand won't always follow the sizing rule when the hand is kinda small. xB

Thanks still for your taking any time to look into it.
