 It can become like Pavlov and his dogs haha. It's true that the things that hurt tend to stick around, but it's usually less because of how much the thing hurt us, so much as how much we allow it to keep hurting us even after it's gone. There's a lot of things like that that are outside of our control, but we don't have to sell our heart to it along with our memories of it.

I agree completely, the worst kind of pain a person feels is often self inflicted one way or another, we go through pain and tragedy and refuse to let it go, we feel guilty and blame ourselves, sometimes we go so far as to hate ourselves for it even if there's nothing we could have done to stop it, we hate that we're are powerless. We forget that experiencing pain is a natural part of life, suffering isn't without purpose it shows us who we are in our lowest moments and helps shape us into who we could be one day. We don't have to hold onto to it or forget about it but we do need to accept it or otherwise we can't move forward
