long-range artillery support for allied ships (especially the USOC-cruisers)

Cargo Capacity:-

Specificity:

  • the USOC's heaviest and oldest battleship class

  • since the USOC favours the use of cruisers and destroyers, the Hammond-Class, along with the Varro-Class of the LDPD, is numerically the rarest class of this ship type

  • also, these two battleship classes are the most specialised classes of this type

  • due to its heavy armour, shield and weapon systems, the Hammond-Class has only a short operational time,

  • the Hammond-Class can operate for a maximum of 3 months without resupply and this period is only valid under optimal conditions

  • therefore, the battleships usually only leave their bases for operations against specific targets or within a fleet, which of course also includes supply ships

  • this limitation is usually not a problem, as it is generally the task of the Hammond-Class to get to a specific target and fight it and then return to base

  • to this end, the Hammond class has the most powerful hyperdrive ever developed by the engineers of Tec Con, which, in relation to the size of the ship, surpasses even the hyperdrive of the Dakara-class city ships, perhaps even the hyperdrive of Atlantis itself

  • unique is the way in which the sublight drive system is installed

  • each of the 4 Tec Con SAH-19 ion drives is installed in its own outrigger, which also houses the systems for the "Dirge" Heavy Asgard Beam Weapon Turrets

  • this was the only way to create enough space in the actual hull for the massive hyperdrive as well as the necessary ammunition chambers

  • for example, the sixteen "Paladin" Very Heavy Railgun turrets cal. 500 mm alone will require a total of 8640 rounds of ammunition (of various effects) for standard operations

  • another special feature is the control of the weapon systems by special weapon control centres, of which there are a total of five on each Hammond class: central-dorsal, central-ventral, central-bow, port, starboard.

  • the main task of the Hammond-Class is to support attacks of the Daedalus-Class and Icarus-Class cruisers in battle with medium-range and long-range artillery bombardment

  • also to attack an enemy's heavily fortified and armed positions, usually space stations or planetary targets, again at medium and long range

  • the most important weapon systems on board are therefore the 98 Vertical Launchers Systems (VLS), which are equipped with either long-range missiles of the type Halevi Corp. IM-D-FW and BMT Ancient Drone Mk III

  • or with medium-range missiles of the type Halevi Corp. IM-C-FW and BMT Ancient Drone Mk II

  • plus the Es'audil Solutions GASN-2605 AAL plasma torpedo launcher cal. 2400 mm,
an extremely heavy staff cannon for long-range bombardment of planetary targets

  • as well as the Union Arms TS-87 "Dirge" Heavy Asgard Beam Weapon as a three-gun turret for engaging the heaviest enemy ships

  • and where each of the three "gun barrels" has three times the effect compared to a Daedalus-class Asgard Beam single emitter

  • in addition to providing artillery support to the cruisers, the Hammond-Class is also responsible for escorting the Pendergast-class fleet carriers

  • these are not only the main carrier ships, but the Pendergast-Class are also the largest supply ships of the USOC.

  • apart from such combat missions, the Hammond-Class is used for the defence of strategically (politically, militarily, economically) particularly important areas.

  • this is also another reason why the battleships never move more than a few flying hours away from their base (not counting combat missions)

EDIT 29.05.2021 I have changed the number of "Ant" shuttles carried, in one of the descriptions for one of the close-ups of the Hammond Class. I have adjusted the number in this description here.
