Got stuck on the script again (I seriously took the whole current scene in a different direction than I'd originally scripted without even realizing it) and started working on a random backstory scene illustration, while working through the block. Calling it done now after spending almost a week on it. I've also been poking at the script a bit, and I think I figured out the part I was stuck on, so I'm going to try to get back to focusing on that.
Anyway, about this... I constantly have this scene in mind because it's a major point in Vilkas's backstory, but I've avoided drawing anything related to it, because I feel like it might be one of those potentially "spoiler-y" things if I go into too much detail (I'm the worst judge of what counts as spoilers).
Basically this is during the time Sylkrey destroyed Southern Alptria. Vilkas was about 13 and was not supposed to be there, he just stupidly tagged along without anyone knowing. He makes it out physically okay, but definitely not okay in any other sense. ...I'm sure at least some people will put this together with other things I've mentioned, but I'll leave it at that just in case.

I love the tiny shaky lines around the poor boy. War is hell, and living in a warrior culture is an even worse hell.

Canids' standards of living are pretty low. Even in the wealthier parts, shit would look pretty ragged by human standards, because they tend to care more about quantity over quality.

Do they have any industry of their own? By the way everyone (minus Requiem) dresses, it seems like they are just taking mostly human clothes and adapting those. Minus the weird belt-coat-girdles (which I assume are for dog-form safety?) the army has.

In a silly sort of way, yes. It's kind of like just wanting to prove a point of "I have all these things and you don't. Do I care about these things sentimentally enough to even take care of them? Probably not."
They do have industries, but it tends to be more rawer material production rather than finished goods. There is trade between them and human society. Clothes are most likely going to be human made and modified by the wearer. Though those who can afford it, are likely to have more custom/handmade things, that may be human or non-human made. The leather and buckles on the military coats is basically a cheaper alternative to basic armor, it's not great, but it's better than nothing.

That is seriously interesting, a very stark difference to most fantasy/urban fantasy races. These guys just hoard and make use of thing they can find. Which, to be honest, fits the canine/feline nature of them.
Interesting that even the ruling family wears the coats, to be honest.

That's mainly just the VonBeijäernachts, because a factor to their position of power comes from them holding high military positions. Families, such as Requyen's, who only have power through wealth wouldn't, they'd just have gaudy expensive shit.
