Description
Photigami is the art of turning a shape into a drawing, by using the shape over and over again until you have a complete object. The original shape ( look at the feet) can be flipped, rotated, coloured or distorted, but only that shape can be used.
It was only after my first attempt , that it occurred to me to look through the other galleries at Worth1000.
After seeing what can really be done with photigami, I had to try again.
6 hours and at least 200 layers later, this was the result.

Yes, I used a few photos of mantises to get it right.

Wow. The amount of effort that obviously went into this piece makes it all the more amazing. Great work.

Interesting idea, technique, too... I like learning new things... And salute you for the patience, I would have run out of it very quickly Good work especially considering the technique, gives a whole new aspect into this. And I have an aversion to bugs of any sort... but this looks pretty cute... Odd. And fun. Nicely done! And greatly detailed, too!

I suppose you could do it in a vector program, but I did this one in Photoshop.
You start out with a single shape - the black shape on his front left foot is probably the best example of the original shape.
You can only use this shape, but you can basically do anything to it.
You duplicate it and by distorting or rotating it, you start to build the final picture.
The shapes can overlap if you want and you can change the colours as a final touch.

I'm not a big fan of bugs, but I can appreciate the effort that went into this and, despite my aversion to insects, this is quite lovely. One thing I noticed though is that the mantis's right, middle leg doesn't seem quite attached to the rest of his body. Otherwise, it's wonderful.

Thank you.
It does seem like the leg is not completely attached, but like the left leg, the first section goes down and then out.
That is why the part you can see is level with the other leg.
I might have to go and fix up the joint on that leg though.
