Description Isis - goddess of fertility, womanhood and prosperity, health, healing and immortality.

Isis was the daughter of Nut, wife of Osiris, and mother of Horus. She was sometimes called Eset. When Osiris was killed by Set, his body was set adrift in the Nile and Isis began her search for him. When she found him, Set learned of it and stole his body, chopped it into pieces, and threw it into the water again. Isis retrieved her husband and reassembled him. Isis was celebrated at one festival called The Lychnapsia, the Festival of Lights, on August 12, to commemorate seeking her spouse in the darkness by torchlight, and her processions resembled those of Bastet.

Egyptians addressed her as "thou lady of the red apparel".
In addition, thanks to *cleasterwood for the further info, Isis was what the Greeks called her. Auset ( also Aset) is what the Egyptians called her, but it was pronounced as"ee-set" (a guess by Egyptologists). Auset was the matron of nature and magic.

Okay so this took me a hell of a while but I think it was worth it. It's my entry into the SERES artbook sequel by .

The theme is art noveau tied in with a Kemonomimi (a character that is mixed between animal and human, namedly a human form with animal parts).

You can find more information about this artbook on [link]

Character drawn in painter, background drawn in illustrator, and they made babies in Photoshop.

You've captured the deco feel quit well. I especially like the subtle line work. It has a hand drawn quality which is difficult to do digitally. The subtle colors and textures of the background makes the figure pop yet the colors harmonize very well. Good job.

It's AWESOME,
but , don't take me wrong, this is not egyptian ART, this is a chick with wings,
I don't see any traces of the mysterious egypt , much less of a 10000 year old Goddess, sorry man,
anyway it's Perfect, but not egyptian

OneFreeInternet In reply to Bryseyas [2010-07-29 22:56:30 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! But I'll be honest - it really doesn't matter to me if it hasn't got traces of aincent egypt in it, it doesn't only because I didn't intend for there to be. It's not any dedication of sorts to egyptian art. It's only an illustration for an artbook I got invited to. I'm glad I made a nice chick with wings.

Thanks again, I'm glad you like it though it's far from perfect.

A very sweet and pretty Isis, which is how I've always seen her. If you bumped into any of the Egyptian deities, you would have the best chance of surviving a meeting with her.

I'd tap dat if it was a self-portrait of yours truly *Not talking about myself - even if I'm chocolaty and melt in your mouth* but only if its a self portrait of the artist/colorist herself.

This whole concept kicks ass. (hope I used the word concept properly in a sentence to describe what digital artist use as slang or whatever its proper meaning.)

Awesome awesome piece! The only part of the blurb you posted that was a little off was; Set (Sutekh) made a beautiful casket. He said it would go to whoever it fit. When Osiris went in, of course it fit perfectly. Set slammed the cover on, and then chunked it down the Nile. It ended up in a tree trunk in Byblos. Then, when Set found out, hacked the body of Osiris up then hid the parts all over the world. Nephthys, wife of Set (sister to Isis, Osiris, and Set), felt so grieved, that she helped Isis hunt down the parts. The only part they did not find, was his phallus. That piece was thrown into the Nile. Tragically, that piece was devoured by Sobek, the crocodile Lord of the Nile (which he was punished by having his tongue removed). Now that Isis could no longer conceive a child, she went into the Nile and begged to the All Father, for impregnation. The last and final sperm of Osiris, made its way into Isis, and then she became pregnant. Interesting when you look at the etymology of "Mary,"(the replacement "Mother goddess" started years later) literally meaning "Of the Water/Sea". Just thought I'd let you know, lol. ANYWAY, this piece is amazing! I love the pose and the idea! Great job!
