It's true. I'll use stuff like "srsly" and "ppl" on occasion, but I use punctuation (even commas!), I generally double space at the end of my sentences, and I don't use things like "u" instead of "you".Related content

Yeah, I'll use w/ and if I'm typing to Twitter or something with a shorter limit I'll sometimes use & instead of "and" and such but that's it. I don't even type out numbers. In technical writing we write out one through nine, so I tend to do that in my every day writing as well.

Yeah, I write out numbers too. I hardly ever just type out the number unless it's like, 100,000 or something. I was one of those kids in English class that just seemed to absorb all the grammar teachings without much effort. It's harder for me to go without punctuation and correct grammar than it is to bother typing it all out.

I get the icanhascheezeburger (or however it's spelled) posts posted to my LJ flist and every now and then I feel really stupid because I can't figure out what they say, or it takes me a little while.

I hear ya... being old I can't get used to doing that. Now that I have graduated to a tiny keyboard just last week, it's even beyound me why people don't type it out completely. They count the message not the letters.

Some people have a pretty small limit for their messages, which is the only reason I could see for doing it. I'm pretty sure it's just laziness though.
Luckily the people I text most have Verizon so I can send them messages that are up to five "pages" long I think.

I do too! Sometimes I shorten you're to youre, though. most people just say "your" for everything and that bugs me so much when they mean "you are"

because it is improper grammar. "your" is possessive and connects a person with an object, and you're is a contraction which mean "you are" and connects a person and a state of being. completely different words which are not interchangable

Sometimes people just abreviate sooo much we can't understand what they're saying. O.O' In my language, we need to use "?" for every question, because there's not a different sentence format for questions, like in english, that the verb comes before de subject when you ask something... the structure is pretty much the same, and sometimes I can't understand if they're asking, or saying something, because they don't punctuate!!! ><'''

I've managed to decipher some of it, but luckily my friends don't abbreviate too much. I do have problems understanding my cousin though. She has horrible grammar and gets straight "F"s in school. After she was adopted and moved here from Africa, she never really learned proper English. So all she does is abbreviate things. I wish she had learned the language in school and not from texting and IMing. She might do better and sound halfway intelligent.

Hm, I see... Well, I think it's a matter of choice too... she had the oportunity to learn proper english, but she decided that texting and IM were better to learn than the school, maybe? I'm nobody to dugde... but I just get pissed when I see some people using bad grammar on internet... I meet many intelligent people, some of them even write literature, and on internet, it's just like they go dumb and write everything wrong ><'' like changing letters, etc.. I never did that unless it was for fun...

And why do you waste time replying to so many comments with the same question, just to get noticed, and make everyone know you don't agree? If you don't agree, just walk away

Well, I text in complete sentences simply because I like to be understood, and if people don't understand what I say, I'll have to send another text just to explain, so. Also, because I like to write, and think it's better to write correctly, it's an advantage to communicate well

Uhm... not really. Sometimes people in Brazil text in such a language even themselves can't understand, it's just insane, and they're losing more time, because they need to explain what's written. Getting pissed is just an expression, it doesn't mean I trully get in rage mode or am rude with them. It just... tickles me

It IS natural. But as I said, some people take it to an extreme way even themselvez can't understand what they're texting.
