Geez Louise!!!!! This is so grand a shot!!!! I know it had to end, but it's still weird to think that the time of the space shuttle is now over. I have followed the space shuttle program from throughout it's entire history. What an amazing achievement this program has been!

Wonderful shot, Jim! I still think they needed a replacement before they retired them. Also think the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force should have gotten one. I hear some of the places that got them charge for admission! Air Force museum has always had free admission! and is central to quite a large percetage of the population. Oh well!

Thanks Chuck. Well I don't have much authority myself as to where I think they should have gone. Unfortunately with the loss of Columbia and Challanger that made the selection process all the more difficult for NASA to decide, plus there is that End of flight preparation and ferrying fee the be considered. You know that JSC in Houston wasn't even considered, how do you think the Astronauts feel about that one? Of course there may be some Political overtones at work here too.....imagine that!

I do understand. I do believe that Kennedy Space Center will have one. I do think that the Air Force should have one, seeing they were very instrumental throughout their career. So much for my pontificating!

I signed up for causeway tickets. Hope I get the chance to buy some (I never do though, blah!). Beautiful photos, as always.

Thanks Tai, and good luck with the tickets. If you don't get the chance to get out to kennedy I will try and shoot a nice launch image for you!

Yeah, anxiously waiting to see if I get to purchase tickets. Either way, I'll go watch even if I have to brave the crowds at Cocoa Beach.

Tai, were you able to get some tickets to launch?

Ugh...I wasn't able to. Very sad about it, I guess after all these years trying to get causeway tickets it wasn't meant to be. Will still try to make it out there, even if I have to watch from Cocoa. *crossing my fingers*

Be aware that we in Brevard county are expecting around 500,000 to 750,000 spectators to crowd into Brevard for that launch. Be careful and drive safe if you come over!

Yeah, I know. Hotels are booked too. I'm hoping to make it out to the Astronaut Hall of Fame like last time. I'll just spend the night there. I'll be as safe as can be.

Beautiful shot Jim. For some reason Atlantis became my favorite ship. I am happy she is the last flight.

Thanks Mark! She will be our (KSC's) Homie when she completes this last mission. So I will be able to visit her all the time here.

an extreme angle would be beautiful here the lighting is great but a different angle or composition would defiantly add drama and depth

That would be nice ...But, I did not have the option of moving to a different angle as we are pretty much held in one location during rollout operations.

I defiantly understand, i would have love to be there! I saw the other photos of Atlantis that you uploaded, and they were just as great.

Thank you very much. Yeah, you are a bit limited to how you can shoot these rollouts and a different angle would sure be nice. But I really only shoot these images from a photojournalisum point-of-view and to document the event from a Historic angle.

CeptemberLea In reply to OpticaLLightspeed [2011-06-03 08:15:29 +0000 UTC]

True, true. For an artistic photograph a different angle would be great. But for photojournalism the full on view is perfect. Have you gone to the las couple shuttle launches? I would love to be at the Cape on one of those days

I work as a contractor at Kennedy Space Center. My function is a Public Affairs Coordinator and Site manager. So It's my responsibility to provide logistical coordination for all of NASA's invited guest viewing sites for Launches, Landings, rollouts, rollovers and all other NASA functions and activities on Center (Kennedy Space Center).
