I had no visibility of it at all this time around. The cloud cover was horrible! But as always, I can count on coming on here and seeing your amazing photos. Thanks for sharing. I'll most definitely be there for the last launch in July.

Awesome! The shuttle is my favorite air vehicle. You caught a great image of its launch.

Great Shot Jim! Those morning shots are a beast with the sun position! Great job. It looks like you must have solved that gear Gremlin!

Thanks very much Bill. It was a struggle this morning to get an acceptable image with the lighting conditions being poor.

That may be true but I'm running very short of additional opportunities to get a perfect Shuttle launch image (At least from my own point of view).

Thanks very much Tom. Today's images were not without some basic technical issues, some of which I have forgotten about and it is apparent by the finished product.

These things happen, a bad picture is still better than no picture though ( cant remember who said that but it is true)

Excellent exposure (lighting) - the steam clouds are just incredible, and the silhouette of the treeline adds a nice layer!

Thanks very much Ric, but like I was telling some other visitors to this image, it was a real struggle to capture anything usuable at all this morning.

Some events "Just being there" is enough - and while this is one of those events - don't sell yourself short, It's a good image.. The sense of power, scale, etc are Epic - so from here - it's a Win-Win - and I'm jealous.

Your way too kind my friend. Sometimes I do let the quest for perfection to get in the way.
I wish everybody could have at least one opportunity to come down and see a Shuttle launch.

I've been having some great discussions about "art" - and one of the key factors is the "effort" of the creating person - Keep striving, (I'm a picky bastard - so I know the deal) - Your quest is a valiant one!
Could you have done better? Maybe?
Could I have done better? Not From HERE! LOL!
- so this is the closest I'll get, and I'm glad to be this close!

Thanks for putting it into perspective Ric, as I am a picky bastard too!
I'll try to get you close to Atlantis tomorrow morning, we rollover from the OPF (Orbiter Processing Facility) to the VAB at 07:00 E to begin the stacking process for STS-135 now slated for mid-July. I should have the images up here on DA by Wednesday.

Absolute perfection Jim, a fitting tribute to Endeavors 25th and final mission. God speed the crew of STS-134.

Thanks very much David. I really struggled with shooting this launch this morning. The Thin overcast really dampened the available ambient light, add to that, I selected the wrong ISO to compensate for the subdued lighting and I had a little moisture borne haze to shoot through as well. But it's a fair image and one I can use as purely documentary journalisum.
