Description Look, guys! It's a semirealistic cat! Or... at least my best attempt.

I felt like doodling something realistic, so I was like "GO GO GO, YES GO" and looked up a reference. Which is this: [link]

I tried to draw the cat as it looked in the reference, but somewhere in my mind, I didn't want to copy it, so I just used it as a basic anatomy structure thing. But I think that worked out alright.

I just sketched it out quickly and closed the reference, and then the day after, I felt like lineart-ing it. So I did. Then I was like "COLOR!" and then. I did. 8D

More or less, this is how I imagine Bumblestripe in the series. Maybe a bit more bulky, but, you know.

His eyes are kind of odd, but oh well.

Drawn in Paint Tool SAI.
Bumblestripe belongs to Erin Hunter and all that stuff.

Oh, great attempt! I was about to say it looked realistic compared to your usual style, before I read your comments XD

As for constructive criticism, here goes:
I feel that the nose need be just a tad bit smaller; not the muzzle, but the black 'triangle shape' of the nose. Just a tiny bit smaller would do. Perhaps the paws on the back legs could have slightly more details, to bring out the shape; as of now, it looks a bit more comic-y than realistic. The front paws are fine though.

I originally have the feeling that the head and muzzle could be a bit rounder(comparing to the photo you referenced), but seeing that some species of domestic cats really do have squarish heads, I am inclined to think it was intentional.

That's about all I see that could be better, the rest is very well drawn in itself.

I like the simplicity of the lines which still was able to express the realism in the feline body shape. Especially that on the shoulders, the haunches, and the belly. The eyes are also very well drawn; it brings out the 'soul' of the picture. The whiskers and forehead-whiskers are a nice touch. A lot of artists who draw realistic pictures of animals will add in whiskers, but tend to forget the forehead whiskers. It's great that you are not one of them e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>

Oh my gosh. You give the best critiques ever, I swear. c:

Thanks so much! And thanks for pointing out all those things, I especially hadn't noticed the part about the back legs or nose. I tend to make noses pretty large naturally, so I usually make them smaller when in the sketch phase, but even then they're still big. xD

And yeah, the square-ish head shape was intentional. ^^ I had oriental cats in mind for some reason while I was drawing it, so I think I might have completely disregarded the reference there. |D That gives me an idea, though, I should try drawing cats with different head shapes and see how that works out.

I-- I cannot express how happy I am that you said that about the head shapes. I have no idea why, really. But just about every tutorial I run into says stuff that centers around a certain shape for cats but don't really take into mind the different head shapes, like the circle, oval, square, and triangle that appear selectively in certain breeds~ ;u; /...stops rambling obsessively

Yeah! 8D The whiskers were a last-minute touch, but I'm glad I added them. And I love adding forehead whiskers, the whiskers seem incomplete and kinda random, for some reason, if you don't add them. xD But it depends, some people make it look really nice without them.

Thanks so much, again, for the critique! 8DD It helps so much, especially when I'm trying to draw cats in a more realistic way.

Oh, you're most welcome! I just try my best to point thing out which I can see by comparing the pictures, taking into mind what the artist most likely wanted to portray with the picture sometimes it's not about 'copying' the reference, and a lot of things are actually 'intentional'.

I've had my fair share of experiences with my family members and close friends (who aren't into drawing or art) where I ask them to give me constructive criticism, yet all they can do is say "oh, I like it/I don't like it", or point out things which were actually intentional, and that did not help at all (Some comments are even along the lines of "why does a wolf have horns? Is it a goat? Wolves shouldn't have horns!" or "I don't like that dragon's coloration, it looks ugly!" when I've clearly told them that the design isn't mine and was a gift art for a friends' design.)

Niceeee! I love Bumblestripe...such a great guy! One of my favorite characters :3 I love the way you did his stripes! They're very unique...I don't often see Bumblestripe drawn like that. He looks very realistic how he's crouching like that, and I LOVE the fluffy tail! Fluffy tails are my favorite <3 Can I use this for a video?

I do love this drawing. The lines have an 'unfinished' but polished look to it that allows the eyes to flow through the drawing. I love the eyes and how you stylized them and really brought this cat to life. You can really tell what the cat is thinking and the desines are very pretty. It has a certain flow to it that I just love.

^-^ It's a unique and beautiful atyle. I've never been able to acomplish the 'unfinished' yet 'polished' look, but I admire those who do.
