"... We just have to have the courage to know what it is, and accept it."This was drawn for =CeruleanOasis 's Perfect Warrior contest!
uhhh dang it. now that i think about it, does she count as a warrior? crap crap crap whoops um
The cat is Cinderpelt and the scene I chose is where she fought the badger that was trying to invade the nursery, dying to save Sorreltail and her kits.
Well, I believe she's the best representation of bravery in the series because even though her life was riddled with hardships and challenges, she persevered through every moment of it. She wasn't even meant to become a medicine cat, but she was brave enough to accept her new fate and make the best of it. I mean, she got run over by a car and twisted her leg and was so detached from StarClan even as a medicine cat and her mentor died while she was still pretty young and auugghhh poor thing. But she didn't succumb to self-pity and in the end, she sacrificed herself for her clanmates. She even knew she was going to die beforehand but she accepted it anyway, just like she had done her entire life. She was so brave to keep fighting, no matter what life threw at her. She faced her own death like a warrior she never got to be.
... I'm not sure if I can still enter since this is really at the last minute, but I suppose I'll post it anyway! ;w;
It's kind of weird and... colorful.. and really not my best piece but I tried to make it work. I guess I should have just gone with my usual style. Really bad idea to experiment. >w> I wanted to show the whole sense of urgency that came with fighting a monster twice your size and emphasize how protective Cinderpelt was being over Sorreltail and her unborn babbus at the same time. I guess it came out looking kind of surreal.

Surreal is good because that was a pretty surreal moment ... I love the emotion and sense of desperation you got across in it. It's a beautiful piece and a really good representation of that scene. good luck in the contest!

I like this picture. I think the coloring and shading and stuff. But I wouldn't get the impression that Cinderpelt is guarding Sorreltail from a badger. Personally, when I see this picture, it looks more like Cinderpelt killed another cat, one she didn't want to. That's what the tear in her eye makes it look like to me, and the view is of the dyeing cat. Sorreltail looks like she's like she's calmed down from something that hurt her, and is looking on with curiosity to see what Cinderpelt will do.
I hope that all makes sense and I didn't sound like an idiot, but that's what I make of it. Once again, I really like this style and I would love to see more pictures drawn like this.

Alright, thank you so much for the critique! I'm glad you liked the drawing.
I found it a little challenging to convey the emotions and backstory, it's something I'm still working on.
Is there anything I could do differently if I were to recreate it? Such as a difference in expression or details or anything? o:
I plan on experimenting more with the style, so yeah maybe sometime in the future! <3

Disclaimer:These are all opinions of mine. I am by no means an expert, and this should all be taken with a grain of salt. These only serve to give an image of what I would feel better gives off the feeling that I believe you to be going for. And I look forward to seeing more experimentation with this style. I'm a person who loves darker and grittier colors and scenes. XD
If I could draw anything beyond a stick man, what I would do is have Cinderpelt in a more aggressive posture. Arched back, fangs bared, etc. to show that she's fighting something. It's been months since I read the book so I don't remember if this little detail was there or not, but in my opinion the tear conveys a different feeling than, she's defending something.
I think Sorreltail does look scared, but her arched eyebrows make her look more curious. Maybe if she was trembling a little bit, it would show more fear? I think some sign of the badgers presence in the picture might help too, perhaps a shadow or a claw or something small. And perhaps a more aggressive expression in Cinderpelts eyes.

Okay, I'll definitely keep those pointers in mind. 8DĀ I think you're right, she should have been more aggressive and Sorreltail's expression does seem to be suggesting more curiosity than I intended. Thanks for sharing your opinion!

This is great! I love the texturing and your explanation is very sound! Great job!
Don't worry about her being a medicine-cat, I accept any cat basically. Also, this contest extends until 8/10 so you're good

This is amazing. You should not regret experimenting, this turned out beautiful! OvO very unique from your usual style, but equally stunning. The amount of emotions and feelings behind this piece, and especially after reading your comment on what inspired it, I truly think this is an amazing piece. You should put it into more groups! I have a few warriors groups I'm in, would you be alright with me submitted it there?
