Description
I decided to join ^PurpelBlur 's Imagination Expand Challenge 3 Contest ([link] )I had for a very long time no energy to draw anything, but this contest gave me some new ideas and some of my energy back
You are really free to draw anything here, you just need to include this line somewhere:
I used the line for the head- I marked it red on this close-up:

Epic, man!
Somehow, the creature manages to be scary and majestic at the same time.

Very nice creature concept! I like the colors you chose for this and the underwater effect with the rays diffusing into the depths is really well done. The line of eyes along its head makes me think this creature wouldn't miss much.

This beautiful creature was done with the highest technique qnd skill. Bravo! Your style reminds me a bit of Boris Vallejo and Frazetta, only more far out in the imagination concept.

The lighting on this is good I especially like the face area. The bright blue underside is a good touch

Thank you!
I hoped that the lighting is better with this creature- I think I have still most problems with finding the correct lighting Probably I should do some light studies

^^ Some studies are always fun too. I think that backgrounds are working for you too.

Huge improvement! This is much cleaner than your older paintings. Here the details have shape and meaning rather than just making the piece cluttered. Good job.

Thank you!
Yeah, it looks much cleaner (and still not too undetailed) and at the same time, it's not that time consuming like drawing every little detail.. probably I will draw more like this in the future, but I'm still searching for a even better (more realistic) technique

Now that is a cool monsta very well done, eslecially using that line as it's maw. I really like the design on it's chest the blue orbs go well with overall look. Well done ^^

...That is one hell of a creative use of that line XD I would never have thought of that.
I love its eyes especially, they're so very shiney and alive, but the rest of it is quite stunning also. I like the rough look of the jewels down its front

OrmIrian In reply to ParanoidNebula [2010-06-27 20:44:10 +0000 UTC]
Ah, well, I guess it was more of a coincidence that I used it for the head!^^ I tried to used for a leg or an eye, but both looked really weird
I'm glad you like the eyes- eyes are always so difficult, yet interesting to draw
Thanks!

this is so brilliant how did you do it???!!!

OrmIrian In reply to heartsknight [2010-06-27 21:02:57 +0000 UTC]
Thanks!
Well.. difficult to say, I just started with some diffuse ideas of a watercreature and the more I drew, the more ideas I got for it... the color adjustments I did at the end (with some color adjustment layers) and I also corrected the brightness/contrast then.

OrmIrian In reply to heartsknight [2010-06-28 14:42:53 +0000 UTC]
Well.. actually, this was a rather "fast" work, compared to other pictures I drew.. It took me around 6-7 hours I think (not that sure because I didn't really checked the time I needed)
π: 0 β©: 1
heartsknight In reply to OrmIrian [2010-06-28 15:09:32 +0000 UTC]
hahaha thats not long at all and what did you use for coloring o and 6-7 hours is ages you must have been proud its brilliant
π: 0 β©: 1
OrmIrian In reply to heartsknight [2010-06-28 18:13:15 +0000 UTC]
I use Photoshop CS3 for both sketching and refining the sketch- the most easy way (for me)for coloring something is using first a really simple color scheme (or maybe no color at all to get the brightness correct) and then useing the adjustment layer you have there... maybe you can look at this small tutorial here, it explains how I (normally) work for getting good colors (I might change this system for some pictures, but I really work a lot with the adjustment layers): [link]
6-7 hours aren't that much- I have pictures where I spent around 50 hours on it.. only frustrating thing: You never really see all those hours made the picture much better than the other ones- sometimes it's better not to spend too much time on one picture.

oh right i understand so you use the photoshop program

OrmIrian In reply to heartsknight [2010-06-30 14:51:10 +0000 UTC]
Yup, but there also some free programms around, if you want to start digital art- like Gimp for example.

Yup, a new picture! Well, it was a long time ago since my last picture, I really was unmotivated to draw anything for a long time..
I hope it will get better now.
Thanks!

It is cool the way that you pieced the shape together in the image. It is kind of hard to see the mouth in the shape itself, but works really well in the entire image. Also it is nice to see the variety of textures used here. I may have already said this, but you really seem to have a good handle on textures. Motivation will come with enough inspiration. Just give it the time required.
I actually have some inspiration to make a new image, but first I want to finish writing a program I recently started.

Thanks again!
Well, I think I have enough inspiration for many pictures, but I'm still not motivated.. it's like I used too much energy for all the pictures I drew before
