Description
Roger Delgado's Master with his puppets. Inspired by Terror of the Autons.I started to adore this character because of John Simm's creation. It was first Master I saw, I'm quite a child of the post-Gallifreyan Doctor Who [too young to remember classic series, plus- I'm in the wrong country
Oh, and his puppets were beautifully ridiculous. Anyone who make up the devil-look like doll which is purposed to be deadly machine [or Auton, or whatever] must be crazy. In positive way, I mean. So I just couldn't help myself and must've add it to Autons in masks. ;D
This drawning took HOURS. It was great fun and hell as well. My hand is screaming something like "give me a break!", but I'm quite proud of this.
Doctor Who belongs to BBC.

This is stunning. I love b/w line art like this, with its clean lines and contrasts.

Ohmygod, yes. The Third Doctor is "my" Doctor, I LOVE his whole era--UNIT, the Brig, Liz, Jo, Benton and Yates, the writing style--and the original, Delgado-flavour Master is easily my VERY favourite. In fact, I'd say he's not only my favourite villian of this show, but is somewhere in my (informal) top ten list of fave villians of all time. You described why he kicks so much ass exactly the way I would've--he's just so _polite_, and sometimes seems genuinely concerned about the good guys!--but then will betray them straight out an airlock without losing a beat.
Here's to discovering the awesomeness of the classic series! (drinks)

Thanks. Honestly- inking was a nightmare... I'm afraid my pens are compleatly "shattered" after this. So it's really nice to hear it isn't such a disaster after all .

Wow, this is fantastically scary... Roger Delgado was a marvelous Masterβ such a loss. But Ainley did a good job too, especially in Survival.
I didn't much care for John Simm's portrayal, sorry to say... but oh well, that's yet another thing to love about Doctor Who. Something for everybody!

I can understand why You don't really "care" for Simm's Master. Everyone can has his own opinion. And faves as well.

If you go to dailymotion, I'm pretty sure they have EVRY episode. If you're missing any, I'd at least TRY there.
Also... you took the words right out of my mouth. I got into it with the Tenth Doctor and you meet the Master and you go, "This guy is... kinda effing AWESOME." and eventually you go, "Y'know, I should really see this show from the beginning." Or in my case, I loved the Master so much I jsut went through his episodes. SO I jumped head first into Autons and 8O *MIND!IMPLOSION* YOU ARE JUST FLATTENED BY THE LEVEL OF AWESOME. He is the BEST, and I LOVE the Master, ALL of them, even Roberts! And that's all it takes, ONE episode and your opinion is changed FOREVER because he is SO incredible. He has SUCH a dignified presence and he and Jon Pertwee had SUCH amazing on screen chemistry it is... EPIC. It's just DELICIOUS watching them, it's absolutely brilliant, so I'm VERY happy to see more people are soming to this conclusion, good on you!
And, as you can see from my icon, I'm just a BIT obsessed really, I... LOVE his Master, it JUST gets better (except possibly 'The Daemons' which is Pertwee's favorite episode for reasons no one can understand XD). He's... he's relaly just incredible, so SUAVE so smooth and brilliant and amazing and charming and... it really, really works between him and Three, when you watch them on screen together and it helps that Jon and Roger were good friends in real life and they bring that sort of familiarity with them when they work together. I just... cannot express how much I LOVE Delgado!Master MORE than any of them and I'm so glad you do too the man deserves more love, he really, really does, not only for his levels of straight-up EPIC, but because Roger Delgado was such a sweetheart in real life and... well, I don't want to spoil, you'll get there.
ALSO BRIG!LOVE! AND HE'S LIKE A RED WINE, HE GETS BETTER WITH AGE! XD Seriously, come watch episodes with me, we'd get on GREAT and Three Era is my personal favorite it's SUCH fun I ADORE everything about it.

Thanks for Your warm words. I really appreciate it.
I've got all episodes, thaks to Internet. While watching first two Doctors, which were great [I would't dare deny it] I could't wait to see next Doctors, neverending desire to know EVERYTHING bout Doc-Universe. But now, when I'm on Pertwee's era somehow.. I just don't want it to end up. Epic era. Everything just seem to fit in. I'm sure I'm gonna love all Doctors [as it was with 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th] and all Masters [Simm's great, good God], but whoa- 3rd done it for me.

Well... 4 and 11 I have a REALLY hard time with. Especially 4. Tom Baker isn't funny and it BOTHERS me, especially coming after Jon Pertwee who's HILARIOUS, made his career as a comedian before he took the role, so... I mean I wouldn't have him try to be LIKE Pertwee, it's not that at all (as that's sorta my problem with poor Matt Smith, but it's more than that) Baker just... he grates on me, his personality really grates on me, I don't personally like him. Many do though, so don't take my word for it c: And Keeper of Traken is still one of my favs anyway SO XD. But then it has EPIC!Ainley as Tremas SOOOO... XP
Other than that I love ALL of them too, but.. there's something special about Three Era, the way it all just WORKS and blends is... amazing, it's simply wonderful.

And Brig... Pitty that 70s wasn't really time for spin'offs. U.N.I.T. deserves one. I can imagine it- Sir Lethbridge-Stewart and his solders defending Earth. Great.

Delgado is indeed perfection. Can't stand Simm though. Is like he's out to destroy everything I loved about Delgado's incarnation.
Anyways great drawing. An easy fave.

Well we gotta face fact, that Simm is "another side of the same coin" as Tennat's Doc. I like him as well. I can't imagine Delgado's Master being 10th enemy... He was too elegant. XD

Can you imagine the cringeworthy scene with the Tenth Doc crying and cradling Simm's Master as he's refusing to regenerate but with the Third Doctor and Delgado's Master? Just wouldn't happen. They're too cool for that wussy crap

which reminds me. I need the Delgado action figure. Though it's only in a two pack with an Axon and I can't really afford it at moment. tsk for expensive two packs but I must obey the master and purchase his figure to worship.

This is Really good!
I just finished the Delgado era, he really, truly was Epic! I think you'll like Ainley when you get to him, if you haven't seen him that is, he was brilliant as well ^_^ and well, we can't forget Simm either , awesomeness! So, to sum it up: The Master Rules!

Thanks. You are very kind.
I'm curious about Mr. Ainley's Master. I haven't seen him yet. But sure he's amazing, as I can judge only by seeing photos and short videos. Still... Delgado just blew my mind. I've expected him to be great. But it's something more. He's HUGE as The Master and he's perfect match for Pertwee's Doctor.

Welcome ^_^
Yeah, you're right he was HUGE! ^_^ It's such a shame that he didn't live long enough to be in more episodes
Although we probably wouldn't have seen him in any anyway, since they were planning on killing off the Master after that first season, but they changed their minds when Delgado died. Imagine, no Ainley or Simm! O_o

Killing Off The Master would be one of the greatests mistakes in BBC history. Or maybe not... they actually killed him couple of times already. I'm sure they'll find a way of bringing him back again
. Doesn't matter if it will be Simm or someone else.

Zizzorhands In reply to orookayasu [2010-08-30 20:14:34 +0000 UTC]
Unfortunately they meant to kill him off forever. He (Delgado-version) was supposed to die and then we'd figure out that he was the Doctor's evil brother. Remember that scene in the Sound of Drums?
"I thought you were gonna say that he was your secret brother or something.." "You've been watching too much TV"
But yes, I really hope that they'll bring him back, he's my favourite character by far!
