Introducing our epic Gaang, five months in the making. All costumes and props were completely handmade. Our main focus was to create real characters with realistic garments and props. Therefore we tried to use quality fabrics and materials, and concentrated on getting all the details right.
We won runner up for best group, which is a huge deal for us as it was our first ever skit - and two of our number were first time cosplayers.
Big thanks to Red (our Suki) who unfortunately couldn't make it, but still managed to help us set up, and did amazing makeup and hair for Zuko, Toph and Sokka. Also, huge thank you to Peta of Silk Bazaar [link] for making our beautiful silk veil poi for Katara and Zuko (even though she had only just come out of hospital!); and our wonderful photographers SamXSam and Miranda.
I am so proud of my Gaang, you are all so amazingly talented and dedicated, the weekend was like walking in a dream made real. It is an honour to have such a fantastic group of friends!

A final thank you and big hugs to all the people at Supanova who said hi, got photos, and made us feel so loved and awesome. We love you all

I (~chrysocome ) made it, I am Toph in this photo. The glider is spring loaded! You can see it in action in the video posted with this photo.
Due to popular request I will probably make a tutorial for the glider. But essentially, the staff is two pieces of pine bolted together to house the slats and fabric. The glider part is basically a giant fan - there are pine slats bolted at one end, and the fabric is cut in a fan shape with slots for the slats to go in. Repeat for the lower fan. There is elastic attached to the outermost slats joining it to staff, so when the catch is released it opens up.

That's amazing. O: I've been trying to make my own for two years. I have the main body, but could never quite figure out how to make the fan part, let alone have it spring loaded! I'm so happy someone was able to do it! You're fantastic!
