Illustration from my submission! Dear Edward Hyde trying to be dapper.In unusual situations--this being one of them--Hyde can imitate Jekyll more or less to a T, taking on his voice and mannerisms and whatnot. The result is (at least when I imagine it) easily just as creepy as when he's threatening you with a knife.
....finally finally finally got to draw Hyde in one of those victorian cloaks YEAH
Since I've been talking about it with a couple people, I should make note that I'm always "working" on Hyde's character, trying to get the guy just right. I'm miles off still but I'm making a proper bid for it with this audition XD
Tried to figure out a way to "color" the little illustrations I'll do for Vanish. Haven't quite gotten there yet, still looks messy.

There's actually a reason for the attempted friendly-smile on Hyde's part--he's actually trying to play up the persona of actually being Dr. Jekyll's mild-mannered assistant!

Specially love your Jekyll/Hyde stuff. Just wanted to know, -I hope you won't find this question offensive- why didn't you follow the book's description, as in "he was very ugly" kind?

Actually! The book is tricky in this regard, and most adaptations go off the strict canon. The book describes him being somehow frightening and repulsive, but he confuses people because they couldn't point to any physical deformity or ugliness that would offend them. To quote the brothers Coen:
"Yeah, the little guy, he was kinda funny lookin'."
"Funny looking in what way?"
"You know, just in a general sort of way."

I wouldn't call it quite uncanny valley, since I think of that as being a very specific, very terrifying concept that refers to artistic renderings rather than actual people. But very similar, yes!
