upon request by ~eos8 i am releasing here this huge pack of textual png dock icons as they can already be seen in either my ObjectDock Backgrounds or my reminiscent desktop screenshot.well, the idea of textual icons representing all sorts of different apps on your dock isn't really all that new actually. in fact i've been inspired by the amazing set of Roberto Urso's The Kobhens. only the lack of the HELVETICA font was causing me to create yet another set of my own personalized textual icons instead of still using The Kobhens.
although the pack contains well over twohundred 256x256px sized icons already, it seems most likely that there are still some missing. that's why i've added both the psd-file and the font i've used to the package. so, creating icons for your desired and yet missing apps should be just a matter of seconds.

actually you don't install these at all.
these are replacement icons in png format most commonly used in application launchers such as ObjectDock, Rocket Dock or RKLauncher for example.
rightclick an icon on your dock and select "properties" (or something similar).
you should be prompted to apply a different icon then.
browse for an appropriate BASIC5 TEXTUAL icon, click "ok" and you're done.

HI I love this icons! I Β΄ve alredy made a few of my own with your psd, thx al lot. Could you please tell me how to use differen colors in the icons? IΒ΄m working with paint shop pro, and I only can choose black and white. thx again

well, you'd have to change the image mode from greyscale to RGB.
once done you can apply any color you'd like for the text.
unfortunately i have no idea how (or if) that can be accomplished in paint shop pro.
i hope it works.

It does not work the files .psd

-okay, first of all make sure to close your photoshop and install the fonts (BASIC5) that are included in the zip of my icon release to your system fonts.
-now you can start photoshop again and load that makeyourownicon.psd file.
-in the bottom right of your photoshop is a layers window. please singleclick on the layer that's named "deviant".
-from the tools window you now have to select (singleclick) the text tool (it's the one marked with the letter "T" on it).
-now, if you'd move your mousepointer inside of the psd document you'll see that the cursor has changed for some tool indicating textcursor.
please move that cursor over the "deviant" text (the cursor should change again if you'd enter that area) and singleclick again.
-if everything is working fine, you should now be able to alter (edit) that "deviant" for your prefered entries. furthermore photoshop should have selected the correct fonts (BASIC5) and their color setting automatically.
-when you've finished your editing simply click on another layer (in the layer window) and your new textline should be finished as well.
-in order to edit the "art" text, just repeat what i described above: ...activate the "art" layer, click into the "art" and edit it to your liking.
-if everything is how you want it to be, you'd finally have to save this new icon as a png file to a place where all your other dock icons are stored and where you can easily find it.
the rest is clear i think.

Love your icons. But like the guy below my post, some of the more popular icons are missing. Things like Mail, Notepad, Pictures, My Documents, My Music, Drives, Network, and possibly a Windows Update icon.

...since i don't use folder shortcuts in my dock i must have completely forgotten about them.

the "notepad" and "windows update" icons however, are called editor.png and windows update.png.
okay, my choice for their appearance might not be everybody's taste.
but hey, that's why i've included the psd file so you can easily create countless additional icons that meet your liking.

icons for some system folders like "My Images", "My Music" etc.?
