This is a portrait of someone I used to love very much,still very much a friend. She was pretty much the first Japanese person I had ever known. Her ancient culture and its orientation towards art and decoration opened my eyes to new realms of expression and artistic freedom.life size-welded steel

I made this piece some years ago,before my old man died.
He knew this woman as I had brought her back to Maine(where I'm from originally)for a long visit.
He said he's give me an "A" for this piece because of the way I used the hair as a pedestal for the head.

I love organic forms and try to translate into metal what I see and love without losing the sinuous flow.
That's why I love Art Nouveau so much.
I think some wrapping would translate well to metal.
