Description This is a portrait of someone I used to love very much, still very much a friend. She was pretty much the first Japanese person I had ever known. Her ancient culture and its orientation towards art and decoration opened my eyes to new realms of expression and artistic freedom.

Beautiful sculpture work! Very imaginative representation, it appears somewhat futuristic. Also, it's presented here really nicely.

Thanks Simanion,
That it appears to you as futuristic may be part of your own dialog you bring to the piece. Most say it looks ancient...But isn't that curious ?

youre very welcome. Yeah, that's the strange thing - I couldnt work out if it looked futuristic or ancient, but eventually decided on futuristic. After time I've decided it lookes like it could be either, but from a completely different world altogether. I guess you've achieved true timelessness with this!

My mistake...
I got this Daily Deviation today you see,for a piece we talked about, and there was a last comment of yours from a week ago, that I somehow lost track of and only found today because it was in the comments on my piece "Asia" (or I thought it was anyway)...
I've had a busy day.
Over a hundred comments and questions on that piece and the story of it...
I feel quite honored really.

i can't really judge or say anthing about men for i got only one ( i know, i missed a lot of fun and romantic stuff like that, but came from a very conservative family)... but i heard, read, about you (men)...

You can't believe everything you think...LOL
Men,(like women) are individuals, some are nice others are not,and most of us miserable creatures are merely a product of our environment. It takes allot of personal work and commitment to emancipate oneself from negative conditioning.

Thank you for noticing,
My old man saw this piece before he died ,and he also knew the woman and how much she affected my life.
He gave me an "A" for the hair-as-pedestal contrivance...
I'm still friends with her but she recently remarried and the piece was really just for me to gain some closure ,so it's not all that important to show to her...

I know you mean this as a compliment and I thank you for that,
but sometimes love is not simple, nor the symbols that dedicate it.
hint:
I PROTECT her by NOT showing it to her.

It HAS been 20 years...
I am a rock that's been tumbled in the surf.
My edges have all been worn smooth by fate and experience.
And I have learned the hard way how to let things go.
But it is also important to respect your youth.
You will find your way too.
And I respect that it may differ from my own...

OMG,
Are you serious ?
I lived with a Japanese woman for 7 years (second generation)and was introduced to that ancient culture through art, food, ritualized beauty, and design.
I had never even known anyone Asian before, and I was completely entranced...
Maybe you've had it shoved down your throat ? I don't know, but for me it was an important eye opener...
This piece was a portrait of her about 10 years after the fact.

well, my grandma and my aunt came from japan and so i think i got used to the artwork bc it was all over their house. whats weird is that my grandma and aunt arent related. my grandpa and his brother both went to japan and married japanese women. but my aunt makiko is VERY MUCH into art- she sells a lot of her paintings. i think the only japanese thing i have other than a doll and knife is this bible- but i cant read it. i was gonna get rid of it but i havent yet. i kind of feel bad that i want to get rid of it but i already have japanese blood in me so i dont think i really need it...but yeah, that is a beautiful piece lol
