Description
I recently found this on my hard drive. I know I said I would upload a Star Tutorial some day because people kept asking me how I make the stars in my pictures. So I modified it a bit and here it is. I'm sorry I couldn't upload it earlier but I had no time and no photoshop.I hope there are still some people who might find this useful.
cheers

This was a hugely helpful tutorial! I created a great star brush by following it.
Thank you for making this.

Possible explanation how to make this a brush? I am just starting off really getting into photo shop, and I learned how to make my own gradiant filters.

When you have your finished star white on a black background, simply invert the image (Ctrl-i) and select Edit->Define Brush Preset...
After that you can select that brush in the brush menu.

i feel stupid. why wont it let me select lens flare?
π: 0 β©: 1
Ov3RMinD In reply to AllyxEmergency [2009-12-10 15:32:39 +0000 UTC]
There could be several reasons for it. Maybe you have selected an empty layer or empty selection. Make sure the black layer is selected and nothing else. Or maybe the color mode of your image is wrong. Go to Image -> Mode and select RGB-Color. Lens Flares are disabled for some modes like grayscale.

I inverted the image and saved as a brush preset but it still came out dark. How do I do it?

Sorry might be a stupid question but how do you invert the picture?

If you are using Photoshop, just select the layer or the area you want to invert and press Ctrl-i.

Thank you for encouraging people not to screw up the flares, it's one of those sure-fire ways to make pictures suck.

I could never ever fav a space art piece with 645 different kinds of flares. It's just UGLY imho. Apart from being unrealistic of course.

woa overmind, that's a very in depth tutorial there, im glad that you are still very active amongst us spacescapers!
insta fav, this would help the starts a lot, great contribution!

Oh, I think "very active" is not the right choice of words here. I'd like to be more active.
But I absolutely agree with you about its contribution. After some time you really get sick about these noise-pixel-with-gaussian-blur-standard-starfields. Haha.

no way brother, as long as you are producing starscape, you're always active.
and yes, ive hated those tutorials with a passion.

Nothing revolutionary, but then nothing revolutionary was needed. This addresses common problems people have, and it does it perfectly.
Nice
