Description
After slaving over the Adventure and Time Trails Modes, I managed to unlock every character in Crash Team Racing.
Penta Penguin is the only character that can't be unlocked through normal means, you can however use a cheat to unlock him and his stats depend on what game version you play (PAL, NTSC-U or JPN).

Trivia: In Crash Team Racing, Penta is unlockable via cheat code, but in the NTSC-U version, at certain points, you may hear him say "Penguin yay 1" or "Penguin yay 2". Provided by programmer Gavin James these were placeholder sounds for Penta but they forgot to replace them.
In fact, this was ND developer Rob Titus's reaction to it here:
"When we went gold, I got a copy of the master to play on my Playstation at home.
The first thing I did was unlock all the characters, including the penguin. I started one lap, heard Gavin's voice and said 'oh s**t!'
I called [Daniel Arey] immediately, but it was too late, the first batch of 500,000 disks were being burned."
This is only in the NTSC-U version, as the PAL and NTSC-J versions had it corrected. Also in the NTSC-U version, his stats actually match Pura's and Polar's instead of Oxide's

Some cool trivia for anyone who doesn't know, but I already did some research on the game after completing it. Hence why I learned about the cheats to play as Penta and Oxide.
If you haven't already, I recommend checking out The Cutting Room Floor. They try their best to bring to light a lot of cut content and beta screenshots/footage for games.

Oh ok. I didn't realize you already knew since only the NTSC-U version has that. At least the PAL version has maxed out stats; here in the U.S. we're missing out on that.

Crash Team Racing has a high possibility of being remastered, lets just wait if this is true.
Trippo was sketched only and never put into the game, and was suppose to be a secret boss after n.oxide,
He was cut before release like you said.

Yeah, I've heard about both those things.
Hopefully Sony will do it with the help of either Naughty Dog or Vicarious Visions, who did Crash Nitro Kart.
I would much prefer Naughty Dog do it, but I'll take anything at this point.
Most games nowadays could never live up to the bar that is set by most of the games before it.

I love playing retro games even though I wasn't born in the 90's. (I'm a 2000's kid) I own a Sega Genesis.

Ah, I was only born mid-90's myself.
So I can't really go around saying I am definitely a 90's kid when I was hardly even conscious of what I was doing.
But the two things I do remember, where slowing being introduced to the Gameboy Colour (Pokemon) and the Playstation 1 (Crash, Spyro, Rayman and so on).
I don't think I really got to play Crash Team Racing for the first time, until 2002-2003.
