As a response to a thread written in 2010. I wouldn't say TNG is on the back burner. TNG has become more popular today especially with TNG-style interfaces now a reality with the I-pad, touchscreens being placed as interfaces over buttons(Yes, I know they had touchscreens back then but not at the level we have)

Right... well, while you might be right (not starting an argument over what I think of Apple; just as a hint, it's not good), I don't really see the relevance, however, I agree that TNG has become more popular, but I suspect it is because they actually managed to have several shows in a row without the requirements of phasers and photon/quantum torpedoes. Something that sadly changed later on, to draw in the general public (aka shallow) audience for the purpose of achieving proper viewer quota.

Maybe I should have phrased it better. I should have said we can relate to it with out level of tech

No worries, I did get what you mean, I just didn't understand the relation to the picture, that's all.

I always liked the look of the Galaxy class with the saucer removed. To the Battle Bridge!

Yes, they used that feature far too little. Star Trek is about exploration and I liked that fact that TNG wasn't about war and battles so much, but still... Well. I guess in a way let's be glad CGI was in its beginnings then, otherwise TNG would have turned out far too mainstream for my liking.

Well Voyager wasn't about war so much either, but I really like the DS9 story line. In fact you saw some good fight scenes with Galaxy class vessels against Dominion, Cardassian, and Breen forces later in DS9.

overseer In reply to NewPlanComics [2010-10-23 23:31:17 +0000 UTC]

Well DS9 was cool, but they had a good combination there. Voyager I prefered the early episodes. Later on it was too little emphasis on their limited resources and if they had milked the Borg any more.... damnitall. The audience was on the verge of being assimilated by season 7.

NewPlanComics In reply to overseer [2010-10-24 00:07:53 +0000 UTC]

That's probably why they got rid of the Borg once and for all in the books. Killed Janeway off in the process.

NewPlanComics In reply to overseer [2010-10-24 04:13:17 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah. In the latest storyline of Next Generation novels. The Borg came in on a complete destruction mission annihilating everything. No Assimilation. Total Scorched Earth (Universe) scenario. Janeway was a casualty in its wake.

Yeah, TNG's gotten into the backburner of most Trekkies these days. TOS has become trendy again

That said, great recreation of the scene, very dynamic.

overseer In reply to Jetfreak-7 [2010-10-23 18:37:06 +0000 UTC]

TOS has become trendy again, because they souped it up with effects. I've actually had a discussion about this only yesterday... what would happen if they redid TNG with modern CGI. Thinking about your comment regarding TOS I'm kinda fifty:fifty now whether or not that should be done... At least Star Trek grew up a bit over the years and wasn't predominantly created to appeal to a young audience anymore.

Jetfreak-7 In reply to overseer [2010-10-24 01:45:22 +0000 UTC]

That was actually one of the issues Paramount was thinking. I think once they transfer TNG to Blu Ray, they MIGHT consider remastering the older FX.

Of course, I won't mind. That'd be Galaxy Class goodness and some of the 80's effects weren't that good.

Snazz84 In reply to Jetfreak-7 [2010-11-03 12:12:39 +0000 UTC]

I think TNG's effects were pretty good over all, but a CGI refurbishment would certainly spice up some of the less exciting season 1 and 2 episodes. And I wouldn't miss the many shots of ships firing at eachother while sitting completely static.

overseer In reply to Jetfreak-7 [2010-10-24 04:52:37 +0000 UTC]

Well, what is it they say? Classics never die! As long as they don't botch it up as they did in the last episode of Enterprise... I could have killed the set master. EVERYTHING was out of proportion, albeit the nicely rendered Galaxy-class. They didn't even get the color shade of the doors right, damnitall.

Jetfreak-7 In reply to overseer [2010-10-24 05:38:42 +0000 UTC]

damnitall indeed. They really f'd up with that contrived mess of an episode. But the CG Galaxy was really cool

overseer In reply to Jetfreak-7 [2010-10-24 06:41:55 +0000 UTC]

Yep, except for one thing! The saucer's impulse engines were lit! They are never lit unless the saucer is seperated. I know I'm nitpicking and they did the same with the CG Galaxys in DS9... gah. I know usually models render with that lit, but even I take the time to amend the settings. This is canon footage! *stopswhining*
