Alfons Heiderich from Fullmetal Alchemist: The Conqueror of Shamballa. Poor thing. The part of his awful, awful fate that irks me the most is that the fast pace of the movie doesn't even give you all that much time to get attached to him, and then hardly any to care that he died because the plot charges on so quickly from that point. However, I absolutely love the concept of his character, and had they made the movie longer, there would have been time to have done both his characterization and his death proper justice. Hence he gets the first color drawing. (In your FACE, all other FMA characters...buhahaha...that is, until I find the time to do anything new...)I love my new colored pencils. I love them dearly. Huzzah for those, and huzzah for the fact that I'm not enslaved to references anymore, at least not for FMA fanart. I was winging it and flipping vaguely through five or six screencap references for this. Unfortunately, the scan isn't awesome. I may try to tweak the colors at some point, because the accidental yellow bits on his skin aren't nearly so visible in the original.
And good lord, did he look like Al before I colored this and added that awkward bit of hair that shows on the back of his neck. Obviously not Shamballa-Al, but manga-and-Brotherhood-Al. I didn't quite grasp why Ed thought they looked so similar, but I get it now, and that must've messed with his head quite a bit...oh, the angst of it all...

I think I liked it better before. Either way it still looks great, but now the tone seems sadder. But I guess that is more apropriate with his character. XD

Yeah, I didn't think the bright colors worked for the tone of the film and characterization, and I was trying to hide some of the pencil lines because apparently I suck at coloring and the scanner knows it.

Okay. I'm gonna try to see if I can't selectively edit the parts of the original that really do need to change that don't involve the overall color (I want to darken the lines and get rid of that awkward yellow in his cheeks) before I repost, but just sent it to you!

looks pretty good. I totally agree with you about getting to know his character. it is really sad when he dies but then he is just pretty much left there. The movie was too fast paced. Have you watched FMA brotherhood? Just wondering because I don't even think of the original anime or the movie because Brotherhood is sooo much better! (just my opinion)

Oh yes. I read the manga first, in about two weeks, this January. Then I immediately watched the first anime plus CoS in its entirety. I was filled with rage at first at the many unnecessary alterations, then I got over it enough to enjoy it, only to be filled with irritation after I went back and thought about the ending and CoS and all of the plot weaknesses/holes therein (and faulty characterization), as well as the injustice of NOBODY receiving a happy ending. I actually found myself feeling worse for Winry than any other character, including Alfons...
Not to mention, all we get to see of Alfons is him not believing Ed about Amestris, then being (admittedly understandably) pretty horrible to Ed, and then finally doing something (conveniently) nice for Ed, and then dying in a way that made me just kind of go "...Oh. Well that sucks. Oh, look, Ed and Al!" I wish that hadn't been the case- I mean, if he's Al's AU double, he's bound to be awesome even if we didn't get to see it.
I still have all the Promised Day episodes of Brotherhood left to watch, and once I finally get the chance to finish, I'll be thrilled to see how the totally epic manga ending will look onscreen. When I'm done with that, I'm gonna re-watch CoS and write a rather vicious parody. Many Nazi jokes will be made.
Also- I just now photoshopped the heck out of this to make the colors less scary if you wanna look again. Still can't figure out how to tone down that background but his hair isn't bright yellow anymore.

Omg I know. The unhappy endings suck. I did not understand. And then the movie didn't really make it even better cause Alfons dies and Winry is all alone. Brotherhood just developed characters a whole lot better and it follows the manga.
AHHH promise day so epic!!. I am re-watching the anime, and I have all the same emotions I did watching it the first time lol. Sooo good.

Do you have the quick selection tool on photoshop. I use it to select only what I want to change and then play with the brightness and colors. Not hard at all. There may be another way but that is just how I do it.

I do not have photoshop. The computer I scan my art on does, but as it's a library computer, I don't have access to it often, nor do I know how to use it...
This was all done on a very basic windows editor, which doesn't help me in getting rid of the obnoxious loudness of that background unless I want to dull him too.
