Illustration from chapter 7 of the fanfic "Transient" by Glass Shoe, commissioned by PoofOfFadedMemories."In the meantime Mason wasn't doing his part to hold him up, and Ed couldn't take up the slack. He felt himself start to slump toward the ground, but Al swooped in and scooped him up, cradling him like he had after their failed human transmutation, when the thing that should have been their mother was a sack of bones on their basement floor and Ed was a broken doll with half his limbs torn off.
Ed met Mason's stare around his brother' shoulder and it was that contact, not Al's cold armor, that made him shiver. He made a half-hearted attempt to struggle, then the fight went out of him and he pawed weakly at Al's chest plate."

I used a reference from one of the FMA video games, whichever one involves Ed getting stabbed in an alleyway and cradled by Al afterwards....

First off, I've gotta say that Edward's eyes are really making me double-take. They embody a lot of pain, which is obviously what he's in a lot of right now, I must say.
I love the way this was shaded, as well. The lines on Al's armor and the creases in Ed's cloak are perfect.
Also, I was having a bit of a hard time understanding his arm being tucked so close to his chest, but then I noticed that he appears to be holding something. >_>
Overall, I love this sketch and I wish I could detail things so well.

As to the eyes, that is so damn good to hear- I tend to scrap a whole piece if I can't get the eyes to look the way I want them to, and I drew his eyes several times here. I wasn't sure about the expression of pain in the context of the story, because he is in pain but he's more exhausted and irritated that his body's crapping out on him when he's trying to beat information out of Mason regarding a criminal case, but I figure that since this is more from Al's (very concerned) perspective, exhaustion and pain would be what he'd pick up on most strongly, especially considering that it's clear the case in the story hits too close to home for Ed...God I love this story...
As to the shading- I'm glad. What you call "perfect" I call me being lazy though.... XD
As to the arm- I suck royally at 3-dimensional ANYthing, but he's supposed to be reaching upward and halfheartedly trying to shove Al away. And it'd be really hard to tell if you haven't read the story but it's a napkin he's been coughing into/wiping blood off his forehead with.

This is just...so amazingly gorgeous. Ed looks awful, completely lacking in energy and strained; I absolutely love how you did him. Also, I think you did an excellent job on the view point, it makes me feel as if I am Alphonse looking down at him. 
...Gosh, I really wish I could give this more praise. I guess all I can say is I simply adore it and thank you so very much for making this and telling me about the fanfic in the first place.

Now that I can give you a proper response I AM SO HAPPY YOU LOVE IT. YOU HAVE NO IDEA.
As to the viewpoint- thank you. POV can be a real nuisance and I hate drawing anything 3-dimensionally at all. But yeah, the expression is kinda more what Al's perceiving than what's going through Ed's head--because Ed wants to get to Mason but all Al can probably see is a very, very sick and exhausted big brother...and of course Ed is all of those things even if he doesn't realize it....GAH this STORY and my FEELINGS.... But at any rate I'm glad it came across how I'd hoped. It was really fun to do. ^_^
