Description EDIT: I know the smaller font is small. The download button will assist. It's still small, but there's only so much typing space! I apologize - it is my first tutorial ever and I hadn't taken into account the size. Please don't complain to me, I am already aware of this problem and don't need to hear it - if you are creative enough to be on here doing art, then you should be creative enough to figure out how to open it in a program where you can zoom in, either your photo editing program or even just windows picture viewer ^.^
----------------------

Here we go... I thought I would post a tutorial on how I paint fur.

I get a lot of compliments on it, which surprises me because its very easy and lazy and rushed. There are people on this site who can create incredible fur... but personally, I just don't have enough patience to draw every strand and shade around it.

So having said that, I by no means am saying that THIS IS THE WAY TO DO IT! I am just saying that this is the way that I do it, and it works and looks decent. By the way, this entire ordeal only takes me about 30 minutes - and that is INCLUDING the careful base coloring and trying to stay in the lines. Because you are following a tutorial, it might take you a bit longer, but once it becomes habit you can breeze right through it.

Here is the line art used for this tutorial: [link]

I got the idea to post this because of 's new collaboration, which has actually upped its requirements, asking for fur detail, which wasn't really required in the first collab. I know a lot of people might be floundering, so here is my measley offering to try to help, or at least give you an idea, should you want to take the time to try it. By the way, if you use this for the collab, you should probably skip the very last part, as the line art was actually asked to be shown in the last collab.

Also, this is really crappy and not one of my best pieces, but I've been rushing all morning because I just wanted to get it done ^.^ I overdid it on the fuzzy, but you get the idea! I hate this drawing of Squirrelflight, but I sure as heck wasn't going to sit around and work on her line art all morning.

I just now noticed that Squirrelflight pretty much looks like Scourge, only ginger. And... OMG, my handwriting gets steadily larger and sloppier... fixed.

(See her funky looking neck prior to my making her furry? That's why I say I don't like to do line art for people - I don't usually notice what looks weird until after I've started coloring ^.^)

I think you could probably make it work ^.^ Aside from the technical things (locking layers), the most important is the burning and the opacity brushes...

Well, on GIMP, there is a lock, but I don't know if it does the same thing... I don't know what it does at all. O.o

try it out! It really helps, especially on the part where you need to pain on shadows or highlights near the edges.

Oh it will!

See I've been trying to figure out how you can paint over the lines, but you still keeping the lines.

My realism technique is to color the cat skin color and then draw every singly hair in. XD
