Description
Well I'm calling it quits on this project. I think it went fairly well, considering that it was an experiment for me. I've never tried painting sea before, let alone wild weather. The piece is a bit on the surreal side, and more of a glory portrait to the ship. A lot of original concept ideas changed greatly along the way, if you look back on my first sketch with this piece [link]This is a duel powered whaling ship (steam and sail), circa 1870's or so.
Print will be available for this piece too, so tell me also if you find it print worthy.
Time: month on and off
Dimensions: Panoramic 4000x2100 Ship 1800x1200
Used: Painter 9 and PS CS
I recommend viewing this piece in full view, and I'm sorry you low res monitor people out there.

As a person who has spent the last 21 years of my life as a mariner, this piece speaks to me. You are quite good at your craft.

Amazing job. I've been going around DA looking for a good pic of just about anything I could find, and I've never seen a REALLY good ship, until this one. Most are good, getting all the lines right, but you've put emotion in it, given it life. Sure, some of the details could use work, but not say that about any picture. Congrats on such a great pic!

This is beautiful. Well done. She's a bit oversailed for the weather, but still very well done

One of the most beautiful compositions I think I've ever seen.
I'm in awe of your talent. Do you use a tablet? If so, have any extra to spare? LOL I want one so badly.
Back to this peice: You have done a splendid job with the colors, textures, lighting, and the depth of the water and the feel of the storm is perfection. *applauds*

Gorgeous work on the sea and sky, and the detail on the ship's great as well. I didn't like the lightning streak much though it felt out of place.
Anyways, great as always, and quite different from your usual stuff.

Excellent work, I have watched the progression of your work, you seem to have learned a great deal in a short time my freind, I for one am most impressed. It pains me to suggest that you might like to have a look at how lightning changes the atmosphere and sky tone around it, love the crested wave directly infront of the ship though. Fav......

For your first time painting a stormy sea, you did a great job. Itβs very well detailed and fluent. The painting looks like it was done on canvas with oils even though itβs digital. I think having this texture adds more to the feeling and power of the storm.
For suggestions I would have tried to dull up the sails a little bit on the ship. They are a tad too bright and look digital made which conflicts with the painter like style. The lighting bolt could be brighter since it is a source of light.
Itβs a great piece for only being an experiment. Good work.

Ahh, that came out much better than I had seen it in my head. The ship looks (predictably) gorgeous, and the water came out looking very realistic, especially surrounding the vessel. Great job, quite meaningful, and, quite frankly, favorite-worthy.

As always, brilliant work. I am baffled with your touch on the water. It looks seamless, perfect, the way it should look. NO clue how you did it.

Finally the finished piece.
First thing I can say is that it really deserves a print.
Weather looks very rough and amazingy detailed. Your dedication is admirable. That's it, I'm out of words. This is just breath-taking.
Fav-tastic!

Your dedication to your projects is inspiring. This is definately print worthy.
Not meaning to be all niggly and crap, but I thought that the rocks deserved a little more detail than they got. But it looks awesome reguardless.
This is something I would definately hang proudly in my hallway. Great job.

Neat... it reminds me of a few paintings from around the 1800s that I saw in the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, as well as some other ones from the National Gallery here in Ottawa. Very nice... it definitely has an older, authentic feel to it (well... except the signature on the front... most of the older ones didn't have thata so visibly displayed).

awesome job on the sea and sky, ship looks great, if I may say....I think you have too many sails out...they would have shortend sail in a storm. looks great!

On a scale from 1 to 10. 10 being one of the best things I've seen on this site or anywhere else.
THIS ranks 13.
I've seen your progress along the way, but the end result is still breath taking.
All your stuff is very detail oriented, but this one really shows it. It just FEELS real.
As though, I were looking out of a porthole from a near by ship.
Again, Great job.

This may just be a test or whatever, but I think it turned out fantastic! The dark black ocean and environment really gives it this wierd sinister surreal feel to me, and I like that. It makes me think of some epic dark cinematic movie scene.
Well done.
