Cinder got his mark after mastering arcane magic, like his father before him. Born in the frozen times of the windigos, he grew up learning how to use his magic to help his family, and tribe. He discovered his mark after using arcane magic to kill a unicorn. His arcane powers were more attracted to blood. His mark is a glowing blood stream. His arcane magic stains his fur and mane blood red over time.

[Bio]
Ciner was around when the windigos froze the lands. He and his race, the arcanest ponies lived together in a small village. The supernatural cold weather did not effect his kind though, as they lived far away from the corralling earth ponies, pegusei, and unicorn. They also had no need for crops, as the arcanests needed blood and flesh to survive. Not just because they new nothing of planting crops, or cause they liked meat, but because it helped their magic thrive. They had no choice if they wanted their cloture to live on. One day, the ponies of Equestia visited them, and saw how amazing their magic was. The unicorns had never seen a pony with no horn cast spells with such ease. They were offered homes in the new found land and even invited to attend magic school. Cinder Star was one of these lucky colts.

All things were well until some of his kind started killing other ponies for their meat. He and his kind were kicked out of the magic school for fear of them turned as well. What started as a new start with a new race to befriend, quickly became a time of segregation, fear, murder, and sadness in Equestria. Cinder did his best to remain kind to the other ponies, and even gave up his dream of learning magic, to be a normal earth pony. But because of his unmistakable snow white coat, everypony knew he was an arcanest, and were very harsh to me, even threatening him if he stuck around. One day while scavenging for some scraps of food off the streets for his mother, he was assaulted by a unicorn. While being beaten with a wooden stick, the unicorn would shout horrible insults at him like monster, freak, ugly, worthless. This was how he ended up getting his cutey mark. He used his magic to kill the unicorn. Blinded by his anger, sadness, and pain. He used the magic to slice the other pony open, and gut him like a fish. When he was finished he cut off the horn and kept it as a prize.

After that, he started going by the name Crimson Step, and The Wonderer.
