Description Headshot for for donating 50 points to my donation pool!

This is her lovely stallion Thunder Chief who I hope I drew correctly
Thanks a lot for donating girl and also thanks for having so much patience with me

I tried a new shading style here! I told you I was sick of my old one xD I didn't shade with the burn and dodge tool here, I picked darker and lighter colours myself and painted with those colours and then I smudged all of it together.
I personally think it turned out quite nice, I'm going to practise with this new style a little more and try to make it look better

Well hope you like it!

What a cutie! I really really like the snowflakes because all their different shapes and sizes look good together. And good for you for trying new things: the colors turned out looking quite well here. Keep on practicing and you'll find what you like.

You're welcome!
I thought it's better to ask, since a lot of people don't like criticism ^^'
Okay, anyways: try not to use the smudge tool too much, and when you use it, pick a big, round, fuzzy brush! It makes blending easier and the shading looks softer ^^ I always go from basic into details, so at first I use a big, big brush to determine light and shadows, pick a smaller brush for more details, an even smaller for more details...and so on It's also useful do do the basic coloration on one layer, and the shadows on one above it on the setting 'multiply' (you do have photoshop, right?). Use two or more colors for the shading, preferably a darker tone of your basic coloration, the main color of your background and various shades of both of them ^^ You will see, it's so much fun experimenting with different colors!
I hope that was at least a bit helpful ^^' Here's a very nice shading tutorial, I think it explains things a lot better than me xD [link]

I don't really like those people, if you wanna improve criticism is only helpful right?

But thank you for all these little tips!
I do like to fall back to the smudge tool a little too much
Can I ask why you shade on a new layer? Because when you use the multiply option your colours get a bit weird don't they?
I'll check out that tutorial a bit more thouroughly tommorrow but it already looks really usefull
Thanks again, I really appreciate the help

Yeah, right (:

You're welcome, I'm glad I can help a little
Happens to a lot of people
Sure ^^ If you shade on a different layer, you don't have to worry about markings and patterns, you can just shade over them without destroying them (: I know it needs some time to get used to and if you have problems in the beginning, fill the whole layer with white, shade the white layer and then set it on multiply (:
You also have the advantage of changing the color of you shading afterwards, for example if you want to change the color of you background, you can adjust the shading easily
And here's a very helpful brush: [link]
I always set it on 60-70% sharpness though and 40% flow :3

Paardjee In reply to jannaphia [2012-01-03 21:04:12 +0000 UTC]

I've tried shading with one layer on multiply but it's not really working for me.
I might try it out with filling it with white another time ^^
I've finished a new drawing today and I just picked darker and lighter colours and painted on the active layer. It turned out pretty good I think, I'll upload it tommorrow ^^
And that brush is my new hero! I's so easy and nice to use, thanks for giving me the link! I wouldn't have been able to make that drawing I was talking about without it c:

I'll check it out immediately!
