Description
I apologize in advance... this is old work from back in the fall of '06.For those who know the book "The Life of Pi" by Yann Martel, you might recognize this rather startling scene between Richard Parker (the tiger) and the meerkats of a strange island. Granted, I wish that this were a REAL illustration for the book, but of course, it is not... it was simply used as a class exercise. We were given individual chapters, and were instructed to create two larger illustrations and two spot illustrations. Fun fun fun... I spent days on end working on these, and a good portion of my health. I'm glad it's behind me.
So for those of you who'd like to know more about this story, google it. Or go buy a copy, reading is always nice.
Pastels... roughly 11x17 inches, I believe.
Intellectual properties belong to Yann Martel, "Life of Pi." I lay no claims to these characters and scenes.
The art, however... (C) April Schumacher

I like the scene you drawed. Specially the eyes of the tiger. He looks so surprised.
" it was simply used as a class exercise."

That is such a great book, and that scene is really..."trippy."

Great!! I love this...it's drawn magnificently!
I wanna know why the 225 pound tiger didn't kill the boy while they were floating in the tiny little boat.

Great illustration. I like how the image's composition is slightly more weighty in favor of the meerkats. I have not read the book, but this shows me that they have strong character and courage.

Glad to hear it's recognizable! It's a very unsettling, striking part of the book... but that's what I like about it.
And thank you!

A great photo depicting a great story! The only thing I don't like is, it looks like they're standing on grass, but the way I remember it, the island was made of vines or bamboo-looking things, or something like that.

Yeah, I guess that detail didn't show up so well... It looks a bit more noodle-y in the original, but ah well.
Thanks for pointing it out, though!
