Description
A male Costa's Hummingbird flashes me as I approach to photograph him. It is quite a treat to be able to be so close to these exquisite jewels and observe them as they go about their daily business of courting, nesting and feeding inthis open air building.
There are eight local varieties of hummers that are in residence here as the specific flowers that are the nectar source for the different hummingbirds come into bloom.
Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum, near Tucson, Arizona.

It's a Tamron 12-170mm with the Piazo stabilization... I sold the rest of my lens on e-bay and I haven't taken this off the camera [except for a week long trip out west when we rented some long lens although I could have shot everything with this lens]!

This makes me want to take a drive to Tucson to visit that museum. It's been a while since I've been that far out of the valley....

The males do! I guess it attracts the females and intimidates rival males... I wonder if it would work on humans!

I can imagine that is a little easier to take! When we were out there late October of 2011 we were so in love with the area that we SERIOUSLY considered driving out in December or January and work our way up into Yellowstone... but we soon figured out what it would SERIOUSLY cost... so we SERIOUSLY decided against going!!! I gotta admit... visions of buffalo along that hot spring-fed creek with a foot of snow on their steaming backs still perks our interest... even a year later.

Well, if you two need a base camp in the Tetons one of these days let me know. Be happy to put you up! But only if you share some of your know-how.
