Description
The Costa's hummingbird males and females both possess a light green back but the male has exceptionally vivid colors on its throat area, which ornithologists refer to as a gorget. The male hummingbird has a shimmering purple throat patch, with much of the head area the same iridescent color. The bird is just 3.5 inches long and weighs about a tenth of an ounce.Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum, near Tucson, Arizona.
