Alice was so excited - it was finally happening! The house was empty, and the final piece to her new ‘leg’ had arrived the day before... it was ready to go!
She really wanted the experience to be perfect, so she took her time putting on makeup, doing her hair just right. She put on a cute blouse and skirt she had chosen JUST for this... the skirt just the right height to show off her ‘assets’. Or ‘asset’, she corrected herself. She slipped a dark stocking up over her left leg and looked at herself, satisfied.
Finally dressed and ready, she took a wide elastic bandage and folded her right leg under herself, like she had done a thousand times before. It felt comforting, and she felt that warm tingling sensation in her cheeks and scalp as she started applying the bandage, watching her leg ‘disappear’...
Her ‘stump’ complete, Alice then reverently lifted the prosthetic leg - a simple peg leg, her fondest desire since she was a young girl - and she carefully pulled the customized socket over her stump. It fit snugly, yet comfortably, and she fastened the Velcro band that was designed to hold it on. She was sweating with anticipation and excitement as she slipped her single shoe on her ‘good’ leg, grabbed her forearm crutches, and carefully stood up.
As soon as she put pressure on her peg leg she moaned. It was deeper than a sexual experience for her... but it still felt good. Really good. She stepped forward on her prosthetic leg, supported by her crutches, then swung her good leg through. She was wobbly, as she expected, but her pegleg was working even better than she expected. She was really doing it, and it felt amazing!
She crutched around the upstairs for over an hour, getting the feel for her ‘prosthetic’, even going so far as to take a half dozen tentative steps without her crutches. That finally pushed her over the edge and she slid down the cool wall, her peg leg sticking out in front of her... she stroked the metal and fiberglass prosthetic as she hiked up her skirt and closed her eyes...
After some time... enjoying her condition... Alice realized she was really hungry - being an amputee can take a lot out of a girl - so she decided to head downstairs to the kitchen. Normally she would never attempt the narrow staircase on crutches, but she really didn’t want to take off the prosthetic, and she told herself that as long as she took it slow and careful, she would be fine...
She lost her balance on the second step down and pitched forward. She felt her neck snap as she hit the lower landing. She was able to call out ‘Siri, call 911’ before she blacked out completely.

The hospital never mentioned the fake prosthetic leg. Maybe the ambulance crew had cut it off of her before they took her in. Maybe they just figured that waking up as a C6 incomplete quadriplegic was enough to deal with now. She did wonder where it ended up, though... not that she’d ever need to ‘pretend’ to be disabled ever again. She looked at her limp, braced left hand sitting in her lap... she was still wondering how she felt about it all...
