Yesterday, I had one of the most worst argues in the history of my existence. A unpatriotic, EU-trolling ex-friend of my said he was an unpatriotic. His speech was mostly of dream of Finland being in European Union, never saw any problem with the Euro, while even the foreign experts have stated that Finland would be better off without the Euro. He didn't say anything about these revelations, and yet, continued of dreaming being a member state in Euro and European Union.

By the way, Einstein hated patriotism, because he saw with his observations of the nazis what blind patriotism can set a country up for. He was very much more on the side of critical thinking, freedom of ideas and expressions and civilly agreeing to disagree.

Nazis represented national socialism. It included racism in it's political ideology, Germans were aryans and other were divided to different groups, depending how close or distant they were to German aryans. The jews were the least liked of the ethnic groups in national socialism. Hitler's goal was to rule all the Europe, even those lands which were not German, such as Poland, Russia, France, you name it.
A normal, peaceful patriotism is not the problem.

Of course it is. The well intended but simultaneously weak minded are easy to corrupt and mislead. Hitler is a real life Anikan Skywalker, from the Star Wars movies. When he was growing up he even read a lot of books about good heroes battling evil dark forces and so on. He got caught up in the romanticism of the stories. We have a saying in the United States: those who are willing to sacrifice liberty for temporary security deserves neither liberty nor security. Yet like Master Yoda has explained, when we let fear co-opt us, emotions spiral out of control and our perceptions become clouded. What could one guy with a stupid mustache possibly have done on his own? The will of the people, well intended but brainwashed to believe in the lie of authority, allowed him to rise to power. His own fears allowed him to be corrupted and turn into this disgusting person.
Humanity as a whole is sick with a psychological disease that has been passed down through the centuries. Repeating cycles of dysfunctional behavior. Thats not human nature, thats the psychological equivalent of a nasty virus. There are of course differences in expressions when looking at different cultures and such. We're not all identical clones, we are individuals on the individual person level, and of course then there are all sorts of different countries, cultures, religions, ideologies and so on.
For awhile Christians were persecuted by everyone. Then Christians rose to power and they not only started to fight each other (ie: catholics vs prodistents, etc) but Christianity at one point even deemed science itself as being blasphemy against God. So even with all of the murder, and crusades, and persecution and all of the really stupid bad harmful dysfunctional shit that every side of every dispute participated in:Β all sides felt that they were the good guys and that they were doing what was best and good for humanity, for their country and for themselves. None of them woke up in the morning cackling like some cartoon super villain or whatever.
So pick any groups in all of human history that ever fought each other in any conflict, and you will see that every single time -- both sides viewed themselves as being the good guys fighting against evil in order to bring greater security to themselves and others, and each time never learning the lesson that if you give up liberty for security you deserve neither. Maybe this time we are finally starting to learn the lesson. First time we've had things like the Internet where people anywhere in the world can speak directly to each other. So, we shall see if this time around maybe we humans decide to clean up the messes both inside of our minds, and outside in the external world
