Description You know... in the third Inuyasha movie... Inu-papa dies... in a burning building. Why did they figure they needed to do that, when the manga already stated that he was killed by Ryuukossei? So, this is just me saying "HA!" to the anime writers, in a lame attempt to give Inu-papa a slightly better death scene. Thus was born my very first piece of dramatic fanart ever. I actually spent a whole week and a half on this thing, but it mostly took that long because I only worked on it maybe an hour at a time. I'm so lazy.

I don't usually put any sort of descriptive background on my images, either, so this was a first for me, too. The Ryuukossei in the background was just traced off a screenshot, since, like I said, I'm lazy and I don't usually do backgrounds.

*lol* He dies twice? Maybe he was saying to himself in the third movie, "Feh! I can't die in such a wimpy way!" Tensiga brings him back, then he goes to Ryuukossei, "Now I'll show you how such a kick ass demon like myself dies properly so nyah! "

In a burning building...? o.o *blink* That's odd. Well, the anime gives Inu-papa a more human look, I think Takahashi meant for him to be just the big dog demon that's always shown.

Anyway, enough of my jibbering. The pic looks awesome, Miss patches! It is sad, for sure, but you made it look so great, I thought it was a pic straight from the movie! Wow. *.*

*Sob* What a beautiful image!!! I haven't seen this movie yet, but I've heard all about and seen some screenshots! You're right, that was a stupid thing to include in the movie...couldn't they have done a flashback of the battle between Ryuokossei and their dad instead? That would have been way more interesting and true to Rumiko Takahashi's original story! *glares at anime directors* Haven't they done enough?! Oh well I still love this pic, what an amazing show of emotion....I wonder if Sesshomaru would have done that...hmmm. It would have been so sad and sweet if he did though! A++++++ for this picture and who cares about the bg?!

beautiful! I watched the Third Inuyasha movie for the Forth time already but I was very confused of the true reason of how Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha's father has died. Anyways, this is a very touching moment....Sesshoumaru actually cares for humans and his family after all, especially his lil Brother, Inuyasha. ^^ it's so sweet he "saved" inuyasha in the third movie. I think their brotherly love has just gotten a bit closer.
I really love this fanart! You did an awesome job! ^^

Ryuukossei is a dragon who faught Inuyasha's father in the past. He appears in episodes 53 and 54. Basically, Inuyasha's father didn't have the power to defeat him, only the power to seal him with his claw, and he ended up dying from the injuries from that fight.

Wow. That' absolutely beautiful. The figures and the coloring are great, and you've captured drama here very well. I'm not so sure if the rock beneath them shoulda been so blurry...that works for the rest of the background, but that's something more immediate, you know? Other than that, I -really- like.
The other comments were right. Myouga did say that Inutaishou only received a mortal wound from Ryuukoutsei, not that he was killed right then and there. I was worried for a moment...thought that the movie had actually created some inconsistancies. Though I don't have an opinion to offer on how climactic his death was in the movie, the scene described to me by a friend sounded pretty dramatic. I'm getting really impatient to see it for myself...

Patches365 In reply to Kurokiba [2004-06-14 21:30:07 +0000 UTC]

See, I still don't like what the movie did. Yes, it was said that Papa "died of a wound received from Ryuukossei", not "he was killed by Ryuukossei". That's simply because "he was killed by Ryuukossei" makes it sound like Ryuukossei won the fight. The way the movie portrays it, the wounds from Ryuukossei were more like his handicap than his killer. You don't list someone's cause of death as their handicap. You list it as what ultimately killed them. Blaming Papa's death on Ryuukossei based on the movie is like having a glass filled to the brim, adding one more drop, and blaming the rest of the water that was already in the glass as the reason it spilled over. It's just not logical.

Aww.... This pic is just so sad.... And the work is just incredible. This picture wouldn't have such a strong impact if the work was shabby, but the colors, shading, and details just make the impact that much stronger. I can't help but look at artwork like this and feel truly envious. Your skill is amazing.
As for the whole death of Inutaisho, I can't form any definite thesis due to the fact I've never read the manga or seen the movie (waiting for the movies to be translated...) but I'd like to take a stab based on what little I have heard. As Papercut pointed out, I too, believe that in the anime it was never stated that Inutaisho died in the fight with Ryukotsusei. I think the wording was something along the lines of Inutaisho recieved a mortal wound in the battle with Ryukotsusei. Now, technically a mortal wound does not have to instantly kill the recipient to be considered a mortal wound. Just so long as the wound ends up being the cause of death. Going on what Papercut said about Inutaisho possibly being already injured at the start of the movie, if this is true, than the injuries he begins with in the movie could have been theoretically caused by Ryukotsusei. The wounds could also technically have been "mortal wounds" in that, had he not had them, he would have survived the battle that occurs in the movie. And, if this is the case, than the movie would in fact coincide with what is described in the anime.
As for Inutaisho dying in a burning building, going by my theory, having been previously injured by Ryukotsusei, if you add on how fighting while you have terrible wounds would aggravate the wounds further, and then add on the injuries caused by who he's battling, I think it would be understandable if in the end he did not have the strength to survive being roasted alive on top of that.
But, keep in mind this is all speculation based on limited knowledge. (and written at 2 AM. heh.) I wouldn't be too surprised if I'm wrong.
On a lighter note, I knew before that Inu means Dog, but it's nice to know the meaning behind the name. "Leader of the dogs" just fits. ^_^ I also didn't know he was known as "Inu-papa" in Japan. It is very cute! However, thinking about these... this late at night... has given me a strange mental image... Thinking of him as the "Leader of the dogs" and looking at the name, Inu-papa... Inu = Dog; Papa = Father; therefore Inu-papa = the Dog Father! Is this leader of the dogs really the leader of a Japanese based canine mafia?! Better be careful! After all... "You mess with the Family... The Family messes with you..."

Patches365 In reply to charizard2000 [2004-06-12 15:55:31 +0000 UTC]

Well, he WAS wounded at the beginning of the movie and it WAS caused by Ryuukossei, so... I dunno, while the movie tried to keep it canon, in the end I felt his death to be a tad on the anticlimactic side, mostly because you never actually SAW him die. He was just in the burning castle, you see it collapse, and you just kinda assume he's dead. I dunno, I feel a death has a lot more impact if you actually see it happen rather than just assume it.

If I don't like it, I'm allowed to take creative liberties to change it, right? RIGHT?

As for "Inu no Taishou", well, yeah, his title means "leader of the dogs". He doesn't have a name, though, so there's no saying what that might mean. And even if people try to get cute and abbreviate it to the more-or-less meaningless "Inutaisho", well... it's still not a name. I mean, it's like saying that "Statue of Liberty" is the actual given name of the woman holding the torch, and if that doesn't work, abbreviate it to "Statueliber" and say THAT'S a name and means the same thing. It just doesn't work.

However, as for the "Dogfather" thing... oh man, inspiration moment.

There are very few fanarts that actually make me stop and really LOOK at them. You know, they're often cute or funny or just yummy...but this one, for me, is charged with so much emotion and a story that I've just sat back and looked at it for quite a while.
I always regret that they really don't have more about Inu-papa in the series and that there seems to be so much confusion about him in general.
Basically, what all that babbling was trying to say was that this is an amazing pic that is going right into my faves and staying there! ^_~

That looks great, nice coloring, the background si a nice touch and adds soem dramatic flare. I still gotta see the movie...though I'm not sure where/how to get it. So in the movie he died in a burning building? that's hard to imagine, cuz he's so dmn big if he transformed he'd easily escape, that and I doubt something like a fire could really have killed him. It makes much more sense that he got killed by Ryukotusei, plus even teh anime series says that's how he died. Oh well/ Anyway, enough rambling, awesome job!

I love it, far more appropriate, I hate when they axe the continuity of a series and a manga to make a movie. They did the same thing with a lot of American cartoons as well, Transformers, GI Joe, etc. They just throw to the wind that we've already been told that his papa died of wounds from the same youkai Inuyasha killed, and also that they have shown us at least two scenes of Inu being a toddler and young boy while still living at home.

Anyway, enough with the rant, Gorgeous artwork, love the color and detail.

Patches-san!! *waves* Tis Yayoi from the IY forums...

Wow...I really like this piece. Me being such a serious person, I guess I just like the dramatic stuff (though that one pic you had of Shippou-Sesshoumaru beating on Inuyasha? That was PRICELESS! "Ora wa Sesshoumaru ja! KO~RO~SU~ZO~~!!" *rotfl*). Plus death in a burning building is just pants. In fact from what you're saying about the 3rd movie I have a feeling it'll just really piss me off, more than anything else. Burning building is one thing, and what the heck is with Inu-papa not liking Sesshoumaru? Or that second Inuyasha vs. Sesshoumaru fight. Or having Sesshoumaru's severed arm a key plot point?? I don't know if that's creative or stupid. Ugh. At least your funny thumbnail theatre resulted.^^

...but I digress, I ought to talk about the pic.^^ Well, for one thing my favorite part about it is that...Sesshoumaru's holding his dead father. It just makes me happy...even though it's a really sad scene...because I've always pictured Sesshoumaru being at the scene of his father's death (though where he was *during* the whole fight....). The dreamlike, blurry background really adds to the mood, and I notice there's a green glow on Ryuukossei...is that just special lighting, or Inu-papa's own brand of fingernail poison?0_o Well, anyway...I like the way you don't see Sesshoumaru's face, but how the entire posture speaks of grieving. Or maybe it's anger. Or both. At any rate, it's just very...appropriate for his character.^^ Did you intentionally draw the pattern on his clothing differently to reflect the fact that this isn't...Sesshoumaru from now? (The flower print on his shoulder, minus the red dye job.) Inu-papa too, is well done; that gash in his shoulder looks like it went straight to the bone. Poor guy... And I thought his hair was very well highlighted.^^

The only small thing I might mention is that Inu-papa looks almost like he's floating. I can't describe it very well, but it's almost like he's stiff from the chest down. I feel like he'd be sagging a bit more in that position...

Ah what the heck, +fav. Inu-papa rocks. Even when dead. And Sesshoumaru rocks too, so...double the rock-ness.

Patches365 In reply to yayoikh [2004-05-01 20:41:12 +0000 UTC]

o_O Wow, talk about a long-winded comment. Not that I mind, since it's definitely more informative than "kewl!" or something.

Anyway, most of the stuff you commented on... was completely unintentional. ^_^* The background was just "Ooh, Photoshop airbrush! *scribble scribble*" The print on Sesshoumaru's clothing is actually consistant with what he wears in the flashback scenes of the movie, which is different from his current attire (the colors on his obi are also inverted, but you can't see that in this picture).

As for the pose, well... that probably has something to do with the fact that I can't draw legs. ^_^* Honestly, Inu-papa was legless right up to the very end, since I was having such a hard time posing them correctly, I just gave up for a while and moved on to coloring, letting him just dematerialize somewhere around the shins.

I do have one other dramatic Sess/papa picture in mind, but that one would rely heavily on backgrounds and lighting, which I suck at. ^_^*

yayoikh In reply to Patches365 [2004-05-02 02:21:03 +0000 UTC]

Eheheh, I'm notoriously long-winded.^^ I figure if I'm going to comment, I might as well not waste the author/artist's time with a "cool" or "awesome" or "write/draw more! You rawk! DD," and actually contribute something worthwhile or helpful.^^

Hey, even if the stuff in the bg's unintentional, it's better than me (this is not saying much...-_-). I can't seem to find the time to sit down and just *figure out* photoshop, so yeah, no CG colors. And all my drawings are pencil sketches with bad shading or no shading. *shakes head* You can always *say* you meant to color the background exactly like that. >D Plus I thought your shading over all was quite good.^_^ Oh, and thanks for explaining Sesshoumaru's clothes...dang, the preview didn't show that much of him. I need to see that movie, just out of a morbid curiosity now.

And I wait with bated breath for your next dramatic Sesshoumaru/Inu-papa pic.
