They are known to be the most highly social of the big kangaroos, gathered in herds of 20 or more members of the herd of both sexes and all ages, when food is abundant. These vegetarian marsupials are crepuscular, which means that they stay up in morning, dawn, and dusk, but they can rest in hotter days in the shade. Baby kangaroos are called joeys. The joeys stayed with their mother(either around her, or in her pouch) until they left their mothers' pouches or got lost. Kangaroos are not territorial, and usually they only fight when females are in estrous.
