Based in this scene I later edited from my novel. Parenthesis text are explanations about details alreday mentioned before the excerpt.

This takes place in a guerrilla base, after a surprise attack carried out by anti-terror forces.

... Back at the field hospital, where Lizzie was resting (after she got wounded by pistol fire in the attack). When she saw Lukas aproaching to her bed from the main entrance, a smile showed in her face. She didn't know about anything that happened after she got hit.
He walked all the way with his head looking down, just rising it for orientation. He sat on Lizz' bed, at her side. Inmediately, she noticed something was wrong, and therefore, she asked.
Lukas was doing well so far, but when she asked, he knew that he had no choice. But before he could say anything, she asked for Spikes (Lukas' best friend, who helped them to retreat to a safer place when Lizz got wounded while he kept the attackers busy) he couldn't hold it longer. He threw his arms around her neck and hugged her tightly as he whispered "Spikes... he's... he's dead".
Lizzie's face changed slowly from the smile she had to a blank face, and when she realized it was real, she couldn't hold and started to cry in his boyfriend's shoulder.
After some minutes, she whispered "Why he had to go, Lukas? Why?". He kept in silence as he answered in his mind, "Because he always wanted us to live"

I liked the shading... must use that pencil more often...
