Description
University Project: Second Year (2012/2013)We had pretty much free reign during this project, providing we could ground it within a professional area of our industry. I chose to make three promotional daggers for the Elder Scrolls game series.Β
The dagger is of my own design, but I tried to keep it similar to the existing weapons found within the games.Β

Wonderful! Is bhe bright color obtained from particular paint or is it the color of the plastic sheet?

The blade was completely clear originally (the same as this:Β paulboyd.deviantart.com/art/Glβ¦ but then coloured with a sprayable dye from Tamiya.Β
The brighter areas are where the light is reflecting off the glue that bonds the layers of perspex together - this wasn't intended but I do like the oily, shimmer effect it gives Β

No bother at all
I think you're asking if it would work as an actual weapon?
It is quite hard and the tip is fairly sharp but I don't think it would be able to do much harm. It is mostly made from acrylic (plastic) sheets which were cut to my design and then sanded to a smooth finish.Β
I hope this answers you questions! Feel free to ask if you have any more!

I think you could sell things like these, although I can't imagine it's inexpensive to make props of this quality.Β However, as a fan of Elder Scrolls, props like these are of great interest.

I am planning on setting up a store to sell prop weapons to keep some money coming in between job placements :]
Making the original props is quite costly in both time and money, so if I were to make a one-off weapon for a client I would have to charge significantly more. To begin with I will just be selling castings of originals which should be more affordable.

I'm hoping to set up a store to sell props!
However, it might not be for a few months yet - it depends on whether I get a placement straight after graduation and how long it lasts for. The prop store will be to keep some money coming in between jobs Β

This is awesome!!! What did you make the blade out of? Β And how did you get that shimmer to it? Β Well done!

Thanks!
The blade is made from multiple layers of 2mm clear Acrylic sheet which I had laser-cut to the shape of the blade.Β
The shimmering, oily effect was actually accidental; the layers are glued together with solvent cement (a glue specially designed for bonding plastics together) - however, it bonds the plastic pretty rapidly and I ended up with air bubbles trapped between the layers.Β I was hoping that these would be hidden when I dyed the blade, but it actually made them more obvious. I kind of like the effect now, but it wasn't intentional.
Cheers for the comment and !
