Description
Final version of my epic Cybermen homage, now with kickass colors by the great Charlie Kirchoff [link] - star colorist for IDW's various Doctor Who titles.Oh, and Happy Halloween, by the way.
Line art and original comment thread here:
Special nods to Lee Sullivan and Adrian Salmon, as some of their work is heavily reffed here (the REAL TIME Cyberman and the symbol from DWM's "The Cybermen" comic, respectively), as well as the artist who depicted the SPARE PARTS Cyberman and horse for DWM 320 (he wasn't credited, but I'm pretty sure it's DWM regular Martin Geraghty), and of course all the brilliant designers who have contributed to the Cybermen's legacy over their 45 year history...

If it's not been done before, this would make a fantastic inspiration for an episode with a Cybermen "collector" with a museum full of old Cybermen remains that come back to life when the Doctor shows up.

I never got this, but why didnt the Cybermen make units that specialize in COMBAT? or atleast something specifically designed to stop the Doc?

I don't know much of Classic Who, but I always figured they weren't much in favor of specialization in general. The inventor in Rise of the Cybermen wanted a new body that would never age- it might theoretically be customizable but editing it over time would really go against the main concept. And in Army of Ghosts/Doomsday they say "Cybermen will remove race and class and color and creed" so there's some implied egalitarianism there as well. Really I always saw that as a theme- the Daleks are a faceless horde who want to kill you; the Cybermen are a faceless horde who want to make you JUST. LIKE. THEM.

Awesome job. I especially like the tall/thin design at the back (an official design?) and the one with red eyes (an official design as well?)

Fantastic I love the addition of the writing so we can more or less see the from where the different eras of Cybermen are from.

Wow!! This is amazing!! I am quite happy to see that there are only three Cybermen that I don't recognize. The horse-head to the left, the tall skinny one to the far right, and the one next to the tall skinny one. Nicely done!!

If you're talking about the one with the glowing red eyes, I believe that's from the BBC radio play "Real Time." I don't know about the tall, thin one, though. I've never run across it before.

Real Time. Got it. Going to have to look it up now. I've really enjoyed the Big Finish productions and Spare Parts was my favorite.

Wow!
Btw, I like the phrase "deadly Cyberman known throughout space history" it sound familiar, somehow and like one of those 50's/60's sci fi phrases that don't make much sense. You don't see enough of them anymore.

It's taken verbatim from an old Troughton-era TV COMIC strip. The Cybermen of those strips were wonderfully wacky (skiing, building giant gold statues of themselves, etc) and I wanted to give some sort of nod to that part of their history.

I've seen bits of them. It's neat how they stuck with the Tenth Planet versions so much.
One thing I can't find is the Spare Parts artwork that you based that Mondas cop on. Do you know whether it's on a site somewhere?
