Description
Although the versions of pokemon that we know from the game are the most common forms in Leftovers, numerous (but not all) lines have variations. Whether for environmental reasons or regulatory.Say hello to the wurmple line! These variations were a bit harder to do, because I was aiming for that dusty "I blend in with the sand" moth and butterfly look. But they ended up looking more like animals than pokemon. One thing I really strive for is keeping them as close to the originals in silhouette and recognizability as possible. So, for instance, keeping dustox's body purple instead of making it its original tan color. For dustox in particular I took inspiration from the shiny.
Also WOW. The last two variation sheets blew up unexpectedly, and honestly i'd been sitting on those designs for a few months now. I was going to wait until I finished all the mons who had variations in hoenn before posting them, but lost inspiration to work on them.
Until now. We are now entering "i've not drawn most of these mons before" territory

Yeah it's definitely a tough tightrope to walk, hahaa. Gotta make em recognizable, but they also have to be animals who can function in the wild. So what do ;;A;; It's definitely been a design learning process

These look great, I like the idea.
I also like how the desert variants seem a bit bulkier and sturdier.

Yup. I suppose they could be part ground type?
Perhaps dustox, since it was never flying type to begin with.

Oh yeah, I did actually intend for them to be ground type. So i guess they wouldn't actually take sandstorm damage LOL WHOOPSΒ Β

I love the warmer color variations. I also really like how Dustox kind of has the Masquerain false face going on.

Thanks!! Honestly I love when gamefreak gives certain pokemon the false face patterning they might have in the wild. So I figured why not implement some of that goodness. After all, the desert is a dangerous place!
